The Role:
Chemring Countermeasures (CCM) is a world leading and innovative company, designing and developing countermeasure solutions to armed forces throughout the world. We are part of the Chemring Group of companies and have a solid global infrastructure, which also helps us to thrive.
We have more than 50 years’ experience at the forefront of Radio Frequency (RF) and Infrared (IR) expendable decoy research, design and manufacture, and as a company with a culture of innovation, operational excellence and safety, we operate at the leading edge of expendable countermeasure technology.
We are now looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environment Director to join our team on permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities:
To develop and successfully implement a clear HSE strategy which meets all CCM, Regulatory and Group HSSE requirements
- In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop and deliver a site wide HSE strategy which enables legally compliant and safe Operations and supports efficient manufacturing.
- Set and implement HSE policy, structure, and governance
- Instil and evolve the culture of CCM to being a High Reliability Organisation (HRO)
To operate as a key member of the CCN Leadership team:
- Actively contribution and input into the 5-year strategic plan
- Ensure HSE is fully represented and prioritised in the strategic plan
- Proactively manage and identify Operational and Business risk, seeking ways and strategies to minimise and mitigate
- Support in the development of site-wide talent and succession planning
Deliver a high performance and reliable HSE service to the site:
- Ensure all major risks are identified and proactively managed
- Adhere to all external legislative and compliance requirements in particular the site Explosive licence and COMAH regulations
- Oversee Emergency Procedures on site
- Maintain and achieve any certifications such as ISO45001 and ISO14001
- Engage with the HSE, Regulatory bodies, Unions and other key stakeholders
- Maintain key performance indicators for HSSE performance monitoring
- Manage and deliver safety communication programme
- Direct incident investigation and reporting
To develop and grow the HSE team and wider business:
- Develop and grow the capability of the HSE function through professional development and coaching
- Promote a team culture of sensitivity to safe operational performance
- Ensure all opportunities to learn from experiences are shared across CCM and the group, promoting a psychological safe reporting culture
- Develop workforce and leadership HSSE competence through appropriate learning packages and safety programmes
The Candidate:
- Right to live and work in the UK
- Must have proven experience working within a manufacturing environment in a high hazard industry
- Chartered member of the institute of Occupational safety and Health
- CMIOSH
- NEBOSH Safety
- Relevant degree or equivalent
- Proficient in MS Office
