Gafoor is a dynamic and rapidly growing family-owned business in Preston. They are a key player in their sector supplying poultry products to leading blue chip manufacturers nationally.

About the Role:

Gafoor is looking to recruit a HR Manager who also has experience of health and safety.

We are looking for an experienced generalist to work in a standalone role with responsibility and accountability for the full employee life cycle. The successful candidate will oversee these areas in a multicultural food processing business based in Preston, with circa 400 employees. You will need experience of working in a fast-paced environment, providing first level advice on policies and procedures, employment law and Health & Safety regulations. Plus, the ability to multitask and deal with a range of incoming enquires – organisation is key to the success of this role.

The goal will be to provide excellent assistance and support to employees and managers. The successful candidate will need a flexible approach to their working hours and demonstrate a willingness to meet with operational teams at times which suit the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide managers and supervisors with advice on all HR related matters
  • Proactively look into ideas and initiatives to improve HR processes and working environment
  • Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems
  • Provide guidance to line managers and the board in relation to H&S risks and compliance
  • Undertake disciplinaries, grievances and accident investigations as required
  • Assist managers in performance management processes
  • Maintain employee records (attendance and other HR related data) according to policy and legal requirements
  • Liaise with Gafoor’s immigration advisor in relation to sponsorship applications and onboarding overseas team members
  • Review employment and working conditions to ensure legal compliance
  • Management of the canteen and other welfare matters
  • Chair and manage the workplace committee

About you:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as HR manager, preferably in a food manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of HR functions (disciplinaries, grievances, attendance management, cost control and training & development)
  • Understanding of UK labour laws and acas codes of practise
  • CIPD Qualified to Level 5 as a minimum
  • Knowledge of H&S legislation (risk assessment, RIDDOR, accident investigation, training & development)
  • NEBOSH qualified ideally although if not IOSH is essential with the ability to gain NEBOSH in time
  • Proficient in MS Office; preferably with knowledge of HRMS
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude
  • Able to form and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and third parties
  • Self-motivated with a ‘can do’ attitude and determination to get under the skin of problems
  • Able to streamline and improve operational HR processes
