Job Title: HR Manager

Location: Thatcham

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 P/A.

Job type: Full Time.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage employee relations casework including disputes, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy.
  • Advise managers and staff on terms and conditions of employment and share best practice with them.
  • Assist with the development of HR policy and procedures that reflect best practice and employment law.
  • Continuously monitor and review HR policies and processes and implement changes where necessary.
  • Provide advice on recruitment and selection strategies.
  • Work with the HR Officer on the recruitment process and campaigns – this may include writing job descriptions, preparing information packs, designing selection processes, and interviewing candidates.
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion strategies and implement best practice.
  • Ensure that compliance measures are met in all aspects of employment with particular emphasis on statutory safeguarding requirements.
  • Develop and promote staff wellbeing initiatives.
  • Work closely with the rest of the HR team on the roll out and continuous development of the HR management information system.
  • Prepare reports on a range of HR metrics including staff turnover, absence, and staff profiles.
  • Carry out pay and reward research and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the HR Administrator and Payroll Officer to ensure that staff are paid accurately.
  • Plan and carry out new starter inductions.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • MCIPD / FCIPD or equivalent.
  • Proven HR generalist experience of three to five years is expected.
  • Strong organisational skills and able to manage a busy workload to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills, with the ability to relate well to a wide range of people.
  • Strong IT skills ideally including HR Management information systems, and Excel.
  • Solid knowledge of employment legislation and current HR best practice.
  • A proactive team player with strong problem-solving skills.
  • A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • A welcoming and friendly approach and a commitment to providing excellent customer service to all users of the HR department.
  • Experience in developing and supporting line managers through change.
  • Sensitivity in dealing with confidential matters.
  • An ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion and diplomacy is crucial.
  • Prepared to ‘roll your sleeves up’ as a member of a small team.
