Location: Newham, London
Salary: £37,722 – £40,869 per annum
Job type: 1 Year Fixed Term
Closing Date: 23rd May 2021
Newham is a vibrant inner-city London borough, with one of the most diverse population within the country. The borough is changing rapidly, with the prospect of exponential growth within the local area as a result of benefitting from significant investment, creating new jobs, homes, and opportunities for all. As a result, it is projected that we will see an injection of £1.5 billion into the local economy over the next 10 years.
Hence, our Human Resources service area conducts essential work and provides vital support that is necessary in assisting the ongoing functionality of Newham Council. Our commitment to providing the highest quality of HR best practice across the organisation and with our partners ensures that we can continue to be one of London’s leading local authorities.
About the job:
Our HR Consultant will implement their demonstrable experience of being a specialist in restructures, TUPE in/out, and leading on organisational change projects. They will deliver a responsive and flexible programme to support service priorities, rising to the challenges of complex restructure casework through developing and implementing innovative solutions by thinking outside of the box.
Directly reporting to a Senior HR Consultant, this role will be a part of a team that consists of five other HR Consultants, requiring the post-holder to work collaboratively with the other HRC’s to manage the pipeline of planned restructures for Newham Council. The HR Consultant will provide comprehensive high quality and professional HR services to all customers, with a key focus on building and maintaining productive relationships when working with the four busiest directorates within the council; Adult & Health, Children & Young People, Newham CYPS Commissioner (Brighter Futures) and Resources.
As an established HR Consultant, this position will deliver consistent HR advice and guidance in relation to our restructuring projects in a legally compliant and efficient way, positively impacting the effectiveness, efficiency, and confidence of the wide range of stakeholders that the HR Consultant will work with. Alongside completing shared work, the post holder’s primary duty is to act as a standalone HR Consultant, taking ownership of their own restructure projects and achieving the agreed-upon outcome/s within a specified time frame.
Overall, the HR Consultant will need to hit the ground running, becoming familiar with, and confident in applying, Newham’s HR procedures and policies. The role will supplement the existing work carried out by the wider HR service, as well as allowing the HR Consultant to bring forward their own unique experiences and showcase their initiative to help successfully deliver on our restructure projects.
About you:
You must have recent experience in restructure and organisational change projects, with up-to-date knowledge of employment law legislation on restructures and TUPE in/out. It is beneficial to have a CIPD Level 5 qualification; however, this is not compulsory. Whether you are qualified to the desired level or not, you will have the ability to lead change projects, work under pressure and always have attention to detail in order to successfully accomplish our restructure objectives.
We want you to have a flexible approach to working, being comfortable in closely supporting other HRC’s within your team as well as the confidence to work independently and autonomously in a consulting capacity. Assuming responsibility of the restructuring projects designated to you, you will manage such projects with exceptional organisational and prioritisation skills.
In this customer-facing role, you will have excellent communication skills, using them to successfully negotiate difficult HR cases and develop dynamic working relationships with our customers. With either first-hand experience or knowledge and understanding of local government policies and procedures, you will thrive working in a face-paced local government setting.
