The Role
We are recruiting for a Health and Safety Higher Apprentice to be based within the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) function located at our site in Port Talbot, South Wales. The position will reporting into the Occupational Safety Manager, who will support and contribute to the Department’s objective of improving Health and Safety performance within the Strip Products UK Hub’s manufacturing operations. Additionally, an aspiration of zero harm is held within the business and this role will be key in supporting the drive towards this goal.
Work carried out will initially will involve supporting and contributing to the implementation, development and continuous improvement of appropriate Health and Safety processes to ensure ongoing compliance with the statutory obligations and all other relevant Health and Safety legislation. Additionally supporting the development and delivery of the Hub’s Health and Safety strategies to effectively ensure that the compliance and continuous improvement with statutory obligations is delivered and support transition towards ISO 45001 certification.
As the candidate progresses through the apprenticeship scheme, there will be an opportunity to take more of a lead in project management and setting the strategic direction of the business with regards to Health and Safety improvement strategy.
The Apprenticeship
During your higher apprenticeship you will study towards an NVQ Level 3 in Business Improvements Techniques.
All our higher apprentice programmes commence in August/September 2022.
The Candidate
To be considered for this apprenticeship you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English, Maths and Science) at Grades A* – C or level 4 – 9
AND
Have or be expected to achieve 3 A-levels at grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications.
You will have a keen interest in the following:-
- Complex data analysis and problem-solving
- Building relationships with a range of stakeholders and using influential skills to improve the Health and Safety performance within an industrial environment
- Management of Health and Safety improvement projects
- Driving and setting the strategic direction of the business with regards to Health and Safety strategy
