The Role
We now have a new and exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to work within our Health & Safety department. Reporting to the Head of SHEQ, you will ensure the Company meets the health and safety standards through the implementation of the Company Integrated Management System (IMS) ensuring compliance with government regulations and industry best practice.
The Person
Most importantly, we are looking for a driven and enthusiastic individual who will thrive in a busy and constantly changing environment. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to build robust relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
Existing experience within power infrastructure and civils is an advantage but we encourage applicants from a wide range of sectors with transferrable skills as additional training will be provided for the right person.
Travel and Flexibility
You will be required to travel to multiple sites from your office base and be willing to stay overnight on occasion if required to meet the needs of the business.
Key Accountabilities
- Promote a positive safety-first culture across the business.
- Develop and review Construction Phase Plans’ before they are issued for Construction
- Provide competent advice and guidance on Health and Safety issues, driving best practice and a ‘safety first’ culture across the business.
- Represent the Company in all Safety, Health, Environmental, Sustainability and Quality matters internally and externally, when required.
- Oversee Health & Safety on Projects to meet the contract and business needs and objectives.
- Co-ordinate incident investigations, establish and provide advice on the root cause.
- Provide all accident reports and inspections or audit findings in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the Construction Phase Plan and RAMS are created and reviewed before they are issued for Construction
- Create CDM files for projects
- Conduct monthly site inspections / audits including individual environmental and overall H&S.
- Assist the project managers with any additional safety documents where required.
- Review third party safety documents including subcontractor documentation and RAMS.
- Carry out company inductions of new personnel at site and at HQ.
- Carry out inspections and audits in accordance with the audit programme
- Attend site progress and client meetings
- Assist SHEQ team with external accreditations ISO 9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, NERS, Achilles
- Manage all aspects of SHEQ for allocated projects and update the Head of SHEQ with progress.
- Keep up to date with H&S Legislation and Construction Industry Best Practice.
Skills and Experience Required
- Essential Skills and Experience Required
- NEBOSH General | Construction certificate
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 equivalent
- GradIOSH Membership
- Utilities safety knowledge
- Risk assessment and safety planning techniques
- Excavation Safety Knowledge / Temporary Works Co-ordinator
- CDM 2015 knowledge and understanding
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Good communication skills
- Team player

Hours of Work
You will be required to work 40 hours from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm though some flexibility will be required to cover shifts within the working window of 7am and 5pm.
