Job Title: Head of Governance & Assurance

Valens Medical Partnership is the largest family doctor-led medical group in the North-East, looking after the healthcare needs of around 52,000 patients across our eight surgeries in Northumberland.
The Role:
Would you like to work at the heart of NHS Primary Care as part of a committed, dedicated team? We require a dynamic, self-motivated manager to take the lead on providing all necessary assurance to the partnership, ensuring we satisfy our statutory and regulatory obligations, that our internal policies and procedures are robust and that we are a safe and effective organisation.
Our surgeries are situated in Ashington, Cramlington, Lynemouth, Morpeth, Newbiggin, Pegswood, Seaton Delaval and Seaton Sluice. You will be based at our Morpeth Surgery with some limited travel to our other sites
Main Duties:
You will be accountable to the Executive Team for the effectiveness of the partnership’s governance and assurance arrangements and risk management. You will:
- Provide ongoing assurance that all practices are compliant with Care Quality Commission standards, ensuring continuous readiness for inspection
- Provide ongoing assurance that safeguarding systems, policies and processes are in place across the partnership, these are effective and that there is organisational learning from safeguarding
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and policies
- Ensure compliance with all statutory responsibilities relating to Information Governance and Information Security
- Ensure policies, procedures and guidance are in place across the partnership in all areas and that staff are appropriately trained
- Provide assurance that Safe Recruitment procedures are in place across the partnership
- Maintain relationships and respond to specific directions from all external stakeholders and regulators (ICB, NHSE, CQC, ICO, etc.)
- Oversee insurance and indemnity arrangements
- Effectively manage all the estates within the partnership
- Oversee all complaints that come into the partnership
You will be a key member of the Valens Partnership Senior Management Team and contribute to the delivery of the strategic plan.
This is a hands-on role, leading a team of two Governance Officers, and also leading an experienced two person HR function.
Ideal candidate:
You will possess a confident and methodical manner with the ability to remain calm under pressure. The role requires a strong leader as you will be required to lead & influence all staff across multiple sites & levels. Clinical experience is not required but previous experience in a similar role within the NHS would be advantageous and would be an ideal opportunity for any applicants with previous experience in a Practice Manager role.
