Norfolk is an inspirational place. Its combination of beautiful countryside, market towns, rural villages, the Norfolk Broads, coastal landscapes and the bustling city of Norwich make it a great place to live and work.
We are looking for an innovative, driven and experienced manager who will head up the Council’s Design & Development teams, during what is an exciting and sustained period of infrastructure investment within Norfolk.
You will be responsible for the leading these teams, which include in-house Highways Design and Bridge specialisms, along with Highway Development services. Your teams will play a key part in implementing the Council’s Together, for Norfolk corporate plan. The role also involves close working with the Council’s professional services provider, who are integrated within your teams.
As well as providing leadership, vision and strategic direction to these teams, you will also be a key member of Council’s Highways, Transport & Waste leadership team, directly contributing towards the delivery of exciting highways and transport infrastructure schemes across the county.
Norfolk County Council has an excellent record of securing additional funding, and over the next few years the highways capital programme will be delivering around £500m of infrastructure across Norfolk. You will play a key role in delivering many of these exciting and innovative infrastructure schemes.
Ideally you will be a Chartered Engineer with a proven track record in leading technical teams and infrastructure delivery. As well as being able to demonstrate technical and managerial competencies, you will need to be flexible and adaptable, and be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including politicians, all tiers of local government and other public and private sector organisations. Professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, teamworking skills and being able to multi-task over a range of activities are also essential qualities.
We want our people to be inspired and motivated to work well together, make the most of our workspaces, enjoy a healthy work-life balance, and deliver excellent services to Norfolk and its people. Flexibility is built into the way we work, with hybrid working (splitting your working time between one or more workplaces and agreed remote working locations like your home) a key feature for many roles. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.
