Job Title: Head Housekeeper
Location: Garrowby Estate, York
Salary: £25,000 – £29,000 pa dependent on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week.
Garrowby Hall is the principal house of a traditional agricultural estate, located 13 miles east of York.
The Role:
We are looking for an organised and experienced cleaner to run a busy, happy household and lead our housekeeping team. This is a hands-on role which requires the candidate to be flexible, with good attention to detail. The position will involve:
- All types of cleaning including washing up, laundry and ironing on a daily basis.
- Food shopping and management of the pantry, fridges and freezers
- Ensuring the house is stocked with toiletries, cleaning products and essentials
- Linen cupboard management and liaising with the laundry company
- Noticing and reporting defects and maintenance issues
- Supervising other housekeeping and occasional casual staff
- Working closely with the family and PA to plan and deliver parties and events
- Awareness of family and guest movements plus anticipation of requirements
The ideal candidate will be a flexible and positive person who is happy to be involved with:
- Occasional childcare during the school holidays
- Implementation and revision of household manuals, deep clean plans and inventories
- Front of house tasks such as greeting guests
- Wardrobe management for 3 pre-teen children including occasional simple sewing (e.g. nametapes), and packing/unpacking for holidays
- Infrequent family-only food preparation
The successful applicant will be required to fulfil the following criteria:
- Experienced cleaner with good product/fabric/surface knowledge
- Excellent communication skills and a good team member
- Excellent practical organisation skills
- Full UK driving licence
- IT literate (e.g. email, online shopping)
- Positive “can-do” attitude
- Attention to detail and thoroughness
- A discreet, reliable and polite character
- Child and pet friendly
- As the role is based at Garrowby Hall, it will be necessary to feel relaxed in a small, rural community
Details:
You will be working alongside our longstanding housekeeper and liaising closely with the caretaking and groundskeeping team, with support from the PA with staff administration, invoices and other planning/ management tasks.
This is a full-time role, with some flexibility required (and given) as to hours worked – generally weekdays 0800-1630 with half an hour for lunch, but occasional weekend work may be required.
