Key Responsibilities and Duties:
In this role you will join the PE department to help teach practical PE lessons from Year 7-13. At Downe House there is a huge variety of sports on offer and the applicant will need to be adaptable and open to learning to coach new sports. The applicant should have good knowledge of S&C and Long-Term Athletic Development. You will be required to lead on-pitch warm ups and manage the overall development of pupils across various stages of growth. The applicant needs to be independently motivated, willing to work early mornings, evenings and weekends and have excellent time management skills. They should be willing to go over and above expectation to deliver a high-quality service to the pupils.
- Assisting with lessons and coaching across a number of year groups and teams.
- Supporting and umpiring on match days and with team training.
- Working with the Boarding House teams to organise sports activities for the pupils.

- Giving other assistance to support the work of the PE Department as required by the Director of Sport.
- As a residential member of staff, supporting Boarding activities and duties as required. This is a residential post, and the Graduate Assistants will live in a boarding house and provide pastoral support as required.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES (ON-GOING SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE)
- Under the guidance of the Director of Sport to prepare and give lessons in line with the agreed syllabus and schemes of work.
- To maintain a record of work (including preparations) in sufficient detail for the Head of Department.
- To mark and assess pupils’ work in line with School and Departmental requirements, and to record assessments in accordance with the Department’s and the School’s policy.
- To produce report grades and comments as required by the School’s reporting schedule.
- To attend parents’ meetings as required.
- To stimulate and encourage pupils to a high standard of interest and work in the subject, ensuring that the needs of each individual are met.
RESIDENTIAL IN A BOARDING HOUSE
- Due to the nature of the role and the working hours required, this is a residential post, and the Graduate Assistant might live in one of the Boarding Houses.
- Although set pastoral responsibilities will not be assigned, the Graduate Assistant will be asked to provide cover for colleagues from time to time in the Boarding House, and to assist with trips and other events.
- The Graduate Assistant will be resident within the School during term time, apart from times agreed with the Headmistress.
