Role Overview:
They’re currently looking for a Finance Manager who will be responsible for the leadership and management of the local unit finance team including bi-annual reviews of individual and team performance, skillset development, coaching and mentoring. In addition, you’ll be responsible for guiding and influencing members of the business unit senior leadership team to provide a sound financial structure, financial planning, performance and “Best in Class” corporate governance.
You would be ultimately responsible for leading all internal reporting to the relevant stakeholders for the company. These comprise, but are not limited to, monthly management reporting, year ahead reporting (B0), annual target setting, budget (B1) and reforecast (B2) reporting, three year planning and other ad hoc reporting as required.
Maintaining excellent financial performance is critical to the company’s day-to-day operations. With first class financial performance, key divisional activities, such as Finance, Payroll, Procurement and HR, will be able to operate effectively enhancing business profitability, delivery of UK operations and also on its operational reputation in the UK market.
Responsibilities:
- Contributing to financial planning and development as a member of the senior management team, and keeping and distributing notes, records and reports to the executive and management team. Offering professional judgement on financial matters and advising on ways to improving business performance. Contributing to medium and long-term business planning advising on the financial implications and consequences of business decisions.
- Preparing of national statistics returns, employment surveys, and business administration relating to all financial matters.
- Proactively supporting project managers with the production of cost reports and accurate records of expenditure and sales.
- Supervision of the integrated contract management and accounts computer systems including the loading of account software updates. Liaising and supporting the software and hardware support teams to ensure minimum downtime of the accounts system.
- Financial staff supervision, motivation, training, recruitment and selection of team members.
- Financial planning, monitoring, monthly management accounts and reporting, including management and development of accounting procedures, systems, processes and financial personnel.
- Preparation and maintaining cash flow and forecasts.
- Reporting and accounting per regulatory and legal requirements including taxation, dividends, annual report and accounts. Liaising with relevant governing bodies and affiliating financial and accounting audits.
- Ensuring regular preparation and maintenance of nominal and costing balancing, trading accounts, P&L accounts, work in progress, trial balancing, nominal ledgers, sales ledgers, purchase ledgers, control accounts, pretty cash, accruals and depreciation records. Assisting with the data inputting as and when required to maintain currency of those records.
About you:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA chartered accountant with experience of IFRS and UK GAAP and has first time passes alongside a suitable period and quality of Post Qualification Experience (“PQE”).
- Shows familiarity with infrastructure and/or outsourced and managed support services. Reference for project/contract costing background and experience in construction or related low margin industry.
- A desire to work in a multi-disciplinary role working in a fast-paced team environment and a robust and enthusiastic personality and a demonstration of the ability to work to strict deadlines.
- An understanding of reporting requirements demanded by a complex and diverse business and Group finance function combined with the technical discipline of working within the Group’s accounting system and other support systems.
- High standards, an ability to influence and a desire to develop both yourselves and your role over time. Excellent communication skills and the highest standard of computer literacy which are essential requirements. Knowledge of the Evolution accounting system an advantage, but not essential. Must be prepared to speak out for what you believe to be right.
- Must be approachable, pragmatic, practical, grounded and credible in the boardroom and on the ‘factory floor’.
- Experience of previous accounting in a civil engineering industry is desirable as well as a sound knowledge of revenue recognition and the principles of work in progress accounting.
