Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Location: Leeds based covering the Yorkshire area

Salary: Competitive dependent on experience

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time (Minimum 37 hours per week + overtime

Hours: Mon-Thurs 8.30 – 4.30pm, Fri 8.30 – 4.00pm (Flex Fri pm scheme)

Oilgear UK is part of the international Oilgear group producing High Pressure Hydraulic equipment and systems in the UK with facilities located strategically around the globe. Oilgear have been producing hydraulic & electrical control systems within a business that was created in 1921, we are celebrating 100 years in business.

Due to our continued growth Oilgear Leeds is currently recruiting for additional Field Service Engineers to join our expanding business and be part of a dynamic and growing team, supporting the company as the business moves into new market areas, whilst also supporting the existing customer base.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about what they do and enjoys varied work. As a Field Service Engineer you will provide excellent, efficient, timely service and support to our customers who prefer a partner not just a vendor. This role provides you with the opportunity to travel and work on our customer sites in the UK & Ireland.

This position is ideally suited to someone with mechanical experience, preferably hydraulics that has worked in a similar role and thrives on a challenge. A flexible approach is a must as we pride ourselves on always being able to respond to our customers needs. The site is conveniently situated approximately 1 mile from the centre with easy transport links to both the city centre and the motorway.

You will be provided with a company vehicle and it is a requirement of the role to have a valid UK driving licence.

The salary available for this role will depend entirely on the individuals experience and skills.

Main duties will include:

  • Installation of new and refurbished equipment and systems
  • Commission of new and refurbished equipment and systems
  • Working independently or as part of the team
  • Working on site to fault find / diagnose machine problems and generate solutions
  • Generating site reports with recommendations for upgrades and improvements
  • On-site maintenance of hydraulic and mechanical equipment
  • Stripping, assessing and refurbishing hydraulic valves and pumps
  • Fast response to customer breakdowns
  • Supporting the Oilgear sales team
  • Working closely with customers at all levels
  • Identifying opportunities for Service & Repair
  • Working with customers to train maintenance staff
  • Retrofits
  • Completing field reports and timesheets/expense forms in a timely manner
  • Conforming to company health and safety procedures and policies
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and practices

About you

Technical / Job Specific

  • Excellent understanding of hydraulic and / or electrical system drawings and components
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical / engineering drawings
  • Experience calibrating flow, pressure, temperature and positional devices and instruments
  • Fault finding on electro/hydraulic systems
  • Experience in field diagnosis
  • Experience of electro/hydraulic systems control and associated components including Piston Pumps, Directional Control, relief valves, Prefill Valves, high pressure manifolds and proportional control.
  • Work experience in the Steel processing or power generation industries.
  • Experience of writing site specific method statements an advantage
  • Previous experience working in a field based role
  • Knowledgeable in site and workshop repairs and testing of pumps and valves
  • ONC / HNC qualified or recognised relevant Apprenticeship
