About the Role:
To ensure that the family and network are receiving the most appropriate interventions for the child’s and family’s needs.
The Family and Network Practitioner should understand the task of the School and carry out their duties in such a manner that supports the community in providing therapeutic care, treatment and education for severely emotionally troubled primary aged children.
In the Therapies and Networks Team, FNPs work specifically with the families and professional networks of the children, providing therapeutic interventions, family support and a range of liaison tasks. The aim of the work of the FNPs is to help stabilise placements and improve relationships within families and networks.
The FNP will hold their own caseload and will be expected to use team and school structures to think about and plan their work with each family and network. The successful candidate will need to be able to work occasional weekends and evenings and parts of school holidays, in negotiation with the rest of the team.
At the core of this professional task is a commitment by each adult to the conscious use of themselves within the staff group to make sense of and understand the work at all levels and the feelings engendered by it. This is not always an easy task and you will be supported to be honest and open with your understanding of these processes within appropriate groups and meetings. Adults for this reason need to be mature as well as emotionally and physically resilient.
About you:
Essential Experience:
- Previous professional experience of working with children and families with complex needs
- Experience of working with a variety of statutory services
- Experience of working with foster carers and adopters
Desirable Training, Qualifications & Experience:
- Evidence of maintaining the requirements of the profession – eg registration with professional body, CPD etc.- is essential
- Mentalization-based therapy training, Family therapy training, or other therapeutic training relevant to family work
- Experience of working within a residential school environment
- Previous involvement in support groups for parents
- Experience of assessing families for therapeutic intervention
- Experience engaging families in creative ways
