Job Title: Estimator
Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Salary: Negotiable between £25 and £35K initially, dependent on relevant experience,
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Are you excited to stretch the boundaries in structural glass? Or inspired to provide innovative solutions to integrating structural glass, with an emphasis on heritage and ecclesiastical buildings whilst also meeting structural glass solutions in high value residential properties, hotels and commercial buildings?
Would you like to be involved with prestigious projects for clients that have included the Tower of London, Tate Britain and Canterbury Cathedral – as well as prestigious private homes, schools, hotels and high-profile public buildings.
The Company is the UK’s leading provider of wholly bespoke structural glass solutions in churches and heritage buildings, with a rapidly growing reputation for meeting some of the most challenging briefs in some exceptionally sensitive heritage environments – whilst also fulfilling a wide range of contemporary architectural glass requirements including glass links, balustrades, doors, screens and glass structures.
Due to an ever increasing demand for their skills they are looking for a highly experienced and versatile Estimator to join their busy team in Wivelsfield near Haywards Heath.
The Role:
Every project is wholly bespoke so you’ll need an agile approach with the ability to read and interpret specification documents, technical drawings and photos and provide practical and effective solutions where others might only see problems.
Their ‘design to install’ approach takes every project through all stages, including site-survey, measurements, supply and installation.
You’ll be working closely as part of a small team and will be fully supported – although they would hope that you are also capable of working independently to generate accurate estimates.
You will need to be as comfortable discussing project details directly with architects, builders and end-users as you are sharing a brief with their own surveyors and installation teams.
About you:
Naturally you will need excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications specifically excel and word, although they will make sure you are fully trained in their own specific procedures and software. CAD experience preferred but not essential.
You will be organised and able to produce accurate results under pressure.
Of course, they’d like you to have a genuine interest for innovation in structural glass. You will probably have a background in architecture, quantity surveying, glass, metal or even bespoke timber estimating. The ability to analyses potential projects and problem solve is more important than specific glass industry experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret specification documents, technical drawings, photos and preliminary measurements to produce accurate quotations for glass installations fully compliant with all current regulations and adherence to costing guidelines
- Produce written quotations, proposed specifications and maintain relevant correspondence with clients as appropriate
- Develop dialogue and relationship with prospective clients to ensure effective progression to order placement
- Ensure all requests for estimates, tenders and general enquiries are replied to in a timely manner, prioritising return of quotes/tenders by the advised closing date, and producing the required estimates in accordance with procedure and pricing criteria
- Ensure all communications received or sent are attached to the relevant contact data in the CRM database
- Follow up completed estimates with the relevant communication to prospective clients maintaining accurate records on the CRM database
- Ensure all approved estimated documentation is properly communicated with the technical department and installation teams on progression to an order
- Occasional on site work to assist the Surveyor/Fitting manager
- Responsible to the General Manager
Key Requirements:
- Microsoft office – excel & word specifically
- Verbal & written communication
- Construction industry background preferred (office based)
- Familiarity with architectural drawings
- Accurate numeracy
- Estimating background / experience essential, structural glass estimating experience highly advantageous although full training provided due to highly specific nature of work
Interested? They’d love to hear from you.
