They’re a UK-based company with subsidiary operations in the USA, France, Germany and China. The Company supplies materials which are used for research, development and specialised manufacturing applications.
Due to continued expansion there is now an opportunity for an Estimator to join the purchasing team to help to source the best products in the best way for the best price possible.
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Estimator provides costings/prices for customer enquiries based on own research and historic data; Aiming to create and source the best quality product, at the best price to be delivered at the best time in the best way for the customer and the Company.
The Role
Provide cost estimates
- Ensure customer enquiries are actioned in a timely manner and within service level agreements. Liaise with Sales / Technical / Production & Vendors to verify the requirement specification, process time and total cost of acquisition.
- Ensure costings are accurate & inclusive of any added value, packaging & freight to the customer’s delivery point.
- Provide quotation direct to customers where required to improve speed of response.
- Maintain system records.
Procurement of Non-Catalogue parts as required
- Place Purchase Orders on receipt of Sales Order via the company requisition system.
- Ensure specifications on orders mirror customer requirement, are clear, concise and maintained accurately on the company systems.
- Check acknowledgements and update the system accordingly.
- Progress open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met. Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies.
Develop good working relationships with Vendors
- Understand the capability for vendors assigned within commodity group. Actively place enquiries on vendors and maintain good relationships. Where necessary seek new sources of supply and follow the vendor approval process for their introduction. Identify long lead time and sole source parts.
Ensure prices paid are within agreed Budgeted Targets / Standard Costs
- Keep abreast of market trends for materials. Benchmark existing vendors in a bid to maximise our purchasing potential.

- Excellent organising, communication and problem solving skills.
- Must be a team player.
- Previous experience working in a dynamic Purchasing / Sales Team.
- Technical knowledge gained from a similar engineering / material supply business.
- Educated to A level standard.
- Excellent numerical, reporting and reasoning skills.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
