The Role
We are recruiting for an Environmental Higher Apprentice to be based within the Sustainability & and Environment function located at our site in Port Talbot, South Wales. The position will initially report into the Environment Manager, TSUK Operations and will support and contribute to the Environment Team’s objective of ensuring that Tata Steel UK (TSUK) manufacturing operations (i) meets the requirements of company’s environmental policy, (ii) complies with permit conditions and relevant environmental legislation and (iii) facilitates continuous environmental improvement, in a technically robust and cost effective manner.
Work will involve supporting and contributing to the identification, development, implementation and continuous improvement of appropriate environmental processes to ensure ongoing compliance with the statutory obligations and all other relevant environmental legislation. Additionally supporting the development and delivery of the TSUK environmental strategies to effectively ensure that the compliance and continuously improvement with statutory obligations and ISO 14001 certification is maintained.
There will be an opportunity to develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the United Kingdom Emission Trading Scheme (UKETS) compliance requirements working closely with the Environment Lead, Emission Trading Scheme, to support with the continuous improvement of appropriate processes to ensure ongoing compliance with the statutory obligations and all relevant legislation.
The Apprenticeship
During your higher apprenticeship you will study towards an NVQ Level 3 in Business Improvements Techniques and an IEMA Certificate – in Environmental Management.
All our higher apprentice programmes commence in August/September 2022.
The Candidate
To be considered for this apprenticeship you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English, Maths and Science) at Grades A* – C or level 4 – 9
AND
3 A-levels (or equivalent qualifications), one of which in a Science or Engineering-related subject. An A-level in Business Studies or business related topic is desirable.
You will have a keen interest in the following:-
- Improving the environmental performance of industrial equipment and processes
- Complex data analysis, reporting and problem-solving
- United Kingdom Emission Trading Scheme (UKETS)
