At Hale Engineering we are currently recruiting an Engineering Manager who will supervise the design and engineering activities (Electrical, Comms, Technology and Mechanical disciplines) on all projects within Engineering manager Sector.
Key Responsibilities
The Engineering Manager role is focused on managing the delivery of services and products and ensuring that all supporting procedural and operational elements are in place.
- Managing the planning of resources:
- Maintaining a resource and equipment schedule such that business development activities.
- Allocate people and equipment to projects in liaison with the engineering manager
- Maintain a strategic view of what resources are required over a 6-, 12- and 24-month horizon (with the engineering manager).
- Ensuring that projects are delivering to time, cost, and quality:
- Guiding, coaching and mentoring solutions and project leads in the production of costed project plans
- Ensuring that projects are delivered to cost, time and quality
- Chair projects start up, progress and closure reviews
- Chair a weekly planning meeting
- Maintaining operational policies and procedures and ensuring that engineering and business development processes and policies are fit for purpose and in place
- Ensure that there is a clear set of project delivery policies and processes.
- Act as the lead and point of contact for Quality systems such as ISO9001 and 18001.
- Co-ordinating all customer dialogue with the CEO and leadership team.
- Unless directed by the CEO, be the first point of contact for customers of current projects
- With project leads, identify follow on work and on a weekly basis communicate this formally to the Business Development Manager
- Ensure that all safety policies, procedures, and paperwork are in place
- Act as the focal point for all occupational safety elements
- Help project leads write risk assessments for all discreet activities
- Physical Security – ensure the correct arrangements are in place
Key Skills/Experience
- Minimum of 4 to 5 years’ experience of managing multiple, concurrent, technical projects.
- Previous management experience in engineering and experience as an Electrical engineer.
- Understands project management principles and how to apply them.
- Knows how to set up and run project reviews
- Knows how to set up and run lessons learned reviews such that the lessons are implemented.
- Understands quality systems (9001, 14001) and how to tailor to fit
- Has an understanding of safety management (18001/45001), managing safely, risk assessments
- Understands Operations Management in small/medium sized businesses
- Has good interpersonal skills that lend themselves to good customer management
- Is not afraid of delegating appropriately and working across multiple disciplines

They will demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, sub-contractors, staff and other stakeholders.
It is essential that any candidates are degree qualified or alternatively, if you can demonstrate suitable programming/planning management experience.
Furthermore, you must also have the following experience:
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager / Head of Engineering / Operations Manager or similar executive role.
Experience within Industrial engineering/manufacturing or similar environment. - Experience in planning and budgeting. Knowledge of business process & functions (Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations etc.)
- Strong analytical ability.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Outstanding organizational and leadership skills Problem-solving aptitude
