We are a small company with a big presence, and great reputation, in the industries that we are involved in. Based in beautiful Devon, between Exeter and Taunton, we enjoy an accessible location, with a motorway junction and train station just a short distance away, which makes for an easy commute.
We are specifically looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our ever-growing technical team. This is a largely autonomous role, with the overall remit to deliver Engineering designs and supporting information to a high standard, and within the agreed timescale. We are a relatively small company, so this is a customer-facing role and you will be expected to liaise externally with customers and suppliers, and internally throughout the business as required. You will have the full support of management and work with a genuinely great team, including engineers, a technical lead and dedicated administrator.
Key responsibilities:
- To act as the focal point for all Engineering activities within the business and organise the workload of the engineering team in order to deliver the engineering information on time and to a good standard.
- Disseminate and oversee work to the Engineering team.
- Driving through improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and speed via the introduction of novel methods and systems – continually improve the flow and accuracy of Engineering tasks.
- Develop, inspire and mentor the team; We would love to find someone who will actively create a culture of curiosity and of continuously challenging each other, of working together and bouncing off one another; To encourage and develop a culture of positive improvement through initiative; Empower the team to bring forth and implement new ideas; Instil a culture where ideas can be tabled and discussed and a decision is made without procrastination.
- To coordinate all Engineering tasks to deliver the company’s strategic plan. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Mechanical and Electrical design work
- Mechanical and Electrical drawings
- Bills of Material
- Software
- Technical Literature including Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manuals
- Providing Technical Support to customers, including post-sales support
- Documents relating to compliance and legislation (TCFs and other technical records)
- Coordinate technical support to the sales team, for example in preparing quotations.
- To absorb the information coming into the Engineering dept on NCs, to interpret the data and to introduce novel improvements in systems and processes to reduce the same on an ongoing basis.
Key Skills:
Required
- 10+ years’ experience in a Design Engineering Role
- Experience in leading a Team or a Project
- A sound technical background, either an Engineering Degree or equivalent
- Experience in a manufacturing company
- A natural flair for innovation and continually developing yourself and your role
- The ability to work autonomously and proactively
- The desire to lead and inspire a team
Desired
- Previous management experience would be fantastic, but we will equally value a driven and competent engineer in search of their next step
- Proficiency in Solidworks or similar, plus Solidcam
- Experience In working directly with customers
- A full UK driving license
- Experience with an MRP system in a manufacturing environment
