Job Title: Electronics Design Engineer
Location: Bristol, St Anne’s Road
Hours: (40hrs per week) 08.00 – 17.30hrs Monday to Thursday, 08:00 – 15:00hrs Friday
Salary: £35,000
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Working Hour: 06:00am – 16:00pm (finishing time subject to daily tasks), Monday to Friday plus 1 in 3 Saturdays

Our Bristol based team create innovative and award-winning LED and lighting control products, used in some of the most exciting architectural buildings and high-profile entertainment venues around the world. Now in its seventeenth year and with an ambitious year ahead, GDS will continue to develop the well- established brand and will strategically grow, with the exciting launch of a new architectural lighting division into wider commercial markets.
The Role:
Working with a small team of mechanical and software engineers, together you will be delivering new innovative lighting products, and custom one-off special projects. We use Solidworks for physical product development and have recently migrated to Solidworks PCB to take advantage of the integration between mechanical and electronic design.
The full design cycle and manufacturing takes place on site which means you get to see the products / projects from an initial enquiry to seeing it leave the building.
Main Duties:
- Digital and analogue electronics design
- Schematic design and layout, PCB layout, typical 2/4 layer
- Generation of manufacturing data for suppliers
- Obtaining quotes from PCB suppliers
- Library creation and maintenance
- Prototype and short run PCB assembly
- Prototype testing
- Working with the mechanical design team to ensure correct integration of PCB into physical product.
- Working with the software team to ensure hardware and software will integrate
- Software: Solidworks PCB (Altium), Easy PC Pro/Eagle, MPLAB, Office, GIT, SVN, Atlassian Suite
Essential:
- Digital and analogue electronics design experience.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout
- Communications protocols , SPI, I2C, RS485, CAN, USB, ETHERNET, USB
- Thermal management of drive electronics, and high power LEDs
- Hardware knowledge of microcontrollers
- SMT assembly and rework
- Fault finding to component level
- Using Oscilloscope, PSU, Function Generator, Multi-meters, logic analyser etc.
Desirable:
- High power LED driver and DC switching PSU experience.
- Basic Linux experience
- Basic understanding of IP networks
