Job Title: Economic Policy Manager

Location: London

Salary: £30,000 – £38,000 per annum + bonus and a comprehensive range of benefits

This non-profit Technology Organisation is looking for a dynamic and committed policy professional to join its policy team and drive its work on economic policy.

Digital innovation is driving profound change and economic policy needs to keep pace. This new role provides an opportunity to help shape their economic policy platform at a time when digital technology and innovation is becoming ever more important. From questions about the future of tax policy to the search for productivity growth this role would suit someone with an academic background and/or experience in economics who is interested in developing practical policy proposals to ensure that the UK remains one of the world’s leading digital economies.

The role will focus on policy initiatives that can strengthen the UK’s digital economy as well as addressing how wider economic policies need to adapt to the realities of an ever more digital world. The role requires the ability both to analyse issues in depth and develop compelling thought leadership.

The Organisation are looking for a self-motivated and energetic individual who is comfortable working under pressure with competing demands in a fast-paced working environment. The role would suit a confident communicator with a sharp eye for detail, looking to take their next steps in policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the economic policy work programme, including researching policy issues and drafting papers and consultation responses for government, Parliamentary committees and others.
  • Managing and delivering internal and external events; the smooth running of meetings; and managing and implementing stakeholder engagement activities; acting as point of contact for their members.
  • Working with colleagues across the organisation to coordinate how economic policy impacts on different areas of their programme.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders across Whitehall and providing a key point of contact with HM Treasury and BEIS.
  • Supporting the organisation’s engagement with other industry bodies, such as the CBI, UK Finance and DIGITALEUROPE.
  • Ensuring effective use of web and social media to communicate their positions and point of view.
  • Support in the management and implementation of an effective contact programme, ensuring in house CRM is used effectively.
  • Any other duties as required by the Associate Director for Policy and senior management.

  • Strong interest in current affairs and the mission to make the UK good for tech, make tech good for the UK and make tech good for people.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to get to grips with complex technical information and to communicate this effectively to a range of audiences (e.g. writing consultation responses, blogs, newsletters, letters and minute taking).
  • Willingness to learn new areas and “get stuck in”.

Person Specification

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant qualification and/or experience in economics.
  • Strong knowledge of UK policy and political landscape.
  • Proven experience in public policy, public affairs, media relations and/or stakeholder engagement with a track record of successfully delivering outputs that meet project objectives.
  • Good grasp of the workings of Whitehall.
  • Proven track record and experience of managing complex relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of coordinating events, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with and experience of working with senior figures.
  • Good understanding of the role of trade bodies.
  • Strong numeracy skills and familiarity with analysing economic data.
  • Highly competent with Microsoft and MS Office Suite, including Excel and other methods of storing data.

Desired Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience working in a dynamic and external facing role.
  • Experience of economic modelling and costing processes.
  • Experience presenting and speaking in public forums.

This is a full time role based at the London offices.
