The Role
Established in 2002, Sotic is an award-winning digital sports agency, working with some of the biggest names in sport. We’re looking for a Developer Experience Engineer to bridge the gap between back-end architecture and front-end development. The successful candidate will bring both technical knowledge and an understanding of common problems faced by developers, together with an ability to build tools and processes to maximise developer productivity.
The core responsibility of the role will be to identify reoccurring friction points in Sotic-built and third- party technologies, to find their root causes, to suggest and implement solutions, and to monitor their effectiveness. The role will primarily be focused on easing the development, use, and monitoring of the technologies used and written by the company and may include implementing testing frameworks, monitoring integrations, configuration tooling, and more.
Responsibilities
- Work with the wider organisation to identify and build opportunities to ease friction at all parts of the software development lifecycle
- Update or improve on any tooling currently in use
- Perform investigations into current under-performing technologies and friction points to identify root cause and remedies
- Diagnose technical problems through layers of abstraction and distributed systems
- Work with several multi-discipline teams across the whole organisation
Core Skills & Experience
- proficient in AWS (possibly with associate level certification)
- have experience with one or more OOP languages, i.e. PHP, Python, Go
- have experience of Docker and creating basic Dockerfiles
- have experience of Linux and be comfortable working on the Linux command line
- have experience building large scale micro-service technologies
- have experience building CI/CD pipelines – GitLab-CI, Jenkins, CircleCI, etc
- are a strong communicator and effective at listening to people’s needs
Desirable Skills & Experience
This role will heavily intersect with other departments in the organisation so experience of the below would aid those conversations, but by no means are required;
- knowledge of software testing or profiling methodologies and tooling
- proficient in at least one scripting language – Python, Bash, etc
- experience of using JavaScript (in particular VueJS)
- experience of using or developing on WordPress
The position will be supported by strong software and infrastructure engineers and the successful applicant will participate in conversations on all levels of the software lifecycle, from concept through to everyday use.
