The Role:
The successful candidate will innovative and adaptable. They will have demonstrable experience working with a wide range of finance processes with a keen eye for detail when analysing and producing reports. This role is key to representing the charity and it’s trading subsidiary in all its financial dealings with its key commissioners, suppliers, regulators, and internal stakeholders. Therefore, the successful candidate should understand the financial risks and underlying financial performance of the entity’s core operations. They will establish and enhance reporting of financial data through regulatory frameworks, systems, and processes. These will ensure optimum decision making at a management and trustee level to achieve the charity’s objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development of strategic and operational plans within the finance team in support of the organisational strategy and in the furtherance of the objects of the charity
- Identifying the financial impact of current and potential operational changes to the Charity and escalating those in the decision-making process
- Ensuring the robust working of a successful finance department that operates financial controls, nominal ledger reconciliations and control accounts which are used for the foundations of our financial records
- Engage with business leaders and budget holders to promote an open relationship which allows accurate forecasting and budgeting, both cyclically and ad-hoc. This will ensure the Charity and it’s trading subsidiary can estimate its financial position and financial future and promote value for money
- Encourage an approach of process improvement in our financial operations through automation and understanding of our business needs, to provide faster, validated data
- Oversee a financial reporting hierarchy that addresses the differing needs of Trustees, SMT, budget holders, contract managers, commissioners, and auditors
- Build a strong finance team of managers, officers and assistants which promote internal development, cross-personnel training and accreditations
- Invest the reserves of the Charity wisely it’s in furtherance of its objectives. Effectively monitor the timing and risk of such short-term investments through working capital management tools
- Support our contractual and financial arrangements for bids, grants and contracts by overseeing the construction of financially sustainable and competitive costing models
- Communication & Stakeholder Management – Develop and maintain communications with budget holders, SMT members, Trustees, commissioners, auditors and other regulatory bodies
- Manage risks and issues, including those that are strategic and politically sensitive, ensuring regular reporting and escalation as appropriate
- Be an active member of the SMT at Deputy Director level and a member of MHTL’s SLT
- Deputise for the Director of Finance, Infrastructure & Quality
- Development and support of the operational staff who oversee reporting frameworks, financial compliance, and costing analysis, providing as a mentor or coach
The experience and skills you need:
- Managing a multi-level team in a finance environment at a senior level
- Experience of providing and presenting reports which outline, provide options, and recommend decisions at a Trustee level
- Collaborating at a senior level with an organisation’s senior management team
- Experience in constructing and validating cost models for new projects and commissions, bringing in a commercial understanding
- Exceptional IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
