The Role:

We seek to appoint a dynamic and high-quality team player to support the Bursar in leading the school’s support staff team. This is an exciting and fast paced role that is key to the delivery of daily operations, and plays an important role in enabling the realisation of the school’s strategic plan. The post-holder will be responsible for delivering key business support services including curriculum / event support, works and maintenance, compliance, data protection, transportation services and security. The Deputy Bursar is a senior member of the Senior Staff Support Leadership Team and as such will need to build strong and collaborative relationships across the school and be able to deputise for the Bursar. The post-holder will report directly to the Bursar and line manage the Site Team.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • To work closely with the Bursar in the planning and delivery of school support services
  • To line manage the Site Manager and oversee site management
  • To act as the budget holder for all aspects of school maintenance
  • To act as the School’s Data Compliance Officer
  • To coordinate support services involvement and logistic arrangements for school events
  • In conjunction with the Bursar and Site Manager, to manage capital projects including assisting with design, construction, commissioning and management of such projects
  • To coordinate the school planned / preventative maintenance plan according to operational priorities set by the Bursar, and in support of the school’s plans
  • Assist the Bursar with the planning of the physical development of the school
  • To oversee the appointment of contractors for works and maintenance
  • To be responsible for school security arrangements
  • To support the Bursar in ensuring compliance of all school business related processes, and to manage the school compliance database
  • To support the SMT in ensuring ISI compliance
  • To ensure data compliance in accordance with DPA / GDPR
  • To ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations that fall within the support services oversight
  • To manage the updating of school policies
  • In conjunction with the Bursar, to develop, maintain and test the school Business Continuity Plan
  • To act as a member of the school Emergency Response Team
  • To ensure that H&S issues relating to all aspects of infrastructure, including those arising from facilities related risk assessments, audits and inspections are appropriately managed
  • To support the Bursar in the progressive implementation and development of the School Transport Strategy and Travel Plan
  • To be responsible for school transport and traffic management, including liaison with external transport providers
  • To support the Bursar in delivering the school’s sustainability strategy and associated plans
  • To be mindful of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other legislative requirements at all times
  • Understanding fire safety regulations, Health and Safety regulations, emergency procedures and the rules for evacuating a building
  • To be aware of and adhere to the school code of conduct and confidentiality
  • To adhere at all times to the School’s Child Protection procedure
  • Present an approachable professional manner at all times to pupils/staff/parents and visitors
