Star Refrigeration Ltd is a privately owned business founded in 1970 with locations across the UK and overseas. Star Technical Solutions (STS) is a team of refrigeration specialists within the Star Refrigeration group who provide a technical advisory service to clients on all aspects of industrial and commercial refrigeration including regulatory compliance, plant efficiency and design.
The Role
Working as part of a team of consultants, the duties within the role are broad and include a range of different responsibilities. Training will be provided to the successful candidate on areas of work that are covered by Star Technical Solutions.
Responsibilities:
Pressure system inspections on refrigeration equipment to PSSR and PUWER
Preparing Written Schemes and carrying out inspections to legislation requirements is a key aspect of keeping refrigeration pressure systems from harming persons and property.
Your role will include visiting sites to prepare pressure system integrity inspections written schemes of examinations, carrying out inspections and completing documentation. You may identify further inspection requirements resulting in you quoting and co-ordinating further works.
Refrigerant Hazard Assessment
For the preparation of refrigeration hazard assessments, detailed knowledge of legislation, refrigeration safety standards and guidance is required. To carry out these assessments template documentation and calculation tools will be provided.
Whilst on site, you will be verifying the refrigeration hardware safety systems and site layout are appropriate, reviewing the clients own procedures in managing site. Where gaps are identified you will identify actions the client must take and this may include quoting and preparing emergency response plans and site inductions.
Developing and delivering training to clients
The training courses delivered are varied, but typically are Principles of Refrigeration, Permit to Work and Refrigeration Awareness The training sessions typically last one day and are focused on the equipment on the client’s sites. You will be required to prepare the course content and deliver training on site or online to client engineers and management.
Travel
Most site visits can be attended on the same day so you will travel in the morning and return home once finished. On occasion there will be a requirement where you will need to stay overnight. This will be planned in advance and expenses generated through travel are reimbursed.
While the majority of STS focus is UK based, on occasion events and projects require travel out with the UK so a valid passport is required.
Note that due to COVID-19 all travel has been suspended until it has been deemed safe to resume.
The Candidate:
- NVQ Level 3 in refrigeration or HNC in engineering
- Good technical understanding of all aspects of industrial and commercial refrigeration system design and operation
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. You will be interfacing with multiple external clients and internal colleagues on a daily basis to complete your work
- Manage and co-ordinate own work load
- Strong report writing skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
