Job Title: Construction Skills Hub Manager

Location: Chesterfield S41 7NG

Salary: £40,518 – £45,594 per annum

Job type: 37 hours per week/52 weeks per year

We are looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, innovative, and creative manager to lead on the development and implementation of an onsite construction training facility in Staveley. Chesterfield College has been announced as the preferred training provider to develop and run the new Construction Skills Hub based in Mastin Moor and Staveley, Derbyshire as part of the Staveley Town Deal.

This multi-million-pound regeneration project of the surrounding area brings to life learning opportunities for local people of all ages. The skills hub is designed to be a live on-site learning experience where students work closely with industry while gaining qualifications in a safe environment.

We are seeking to employ a trade skilled manager to help run the project and coordinate key project outputs alongside college curriculum colleagues. The successful applicant will require a wide range of construction knowledge, skills and experience of managing externally funded projects. It is an exciting role that will involve curriculum development, staff management financial and monitoring returns alongside the day to day running of the skills hub compound.

Duties and responsibilities Include:

  • Work effectively together with work based and cross-college colleagues as one team, respecting and valuing each other to deliver outstanding services to students and employers.
  • Ensure open, transparent and effective communication that is inclusive of all staff and impacts positively on the student experience.
  • Proactively review the standards of teaching, learning and assessment and plan for
  • improvements with the Head of Learning and Curriculum Teams, measuring the impact on students’ learning and progression, with a particular focus on the achievement of higher grades and maximising student potential.
  • Relentlessly pursue an outstanding teaching and learning experience for all students by ensuring effective planning for learning that is innovative, experimental and engaging and impacts positively on learning outcomes, higher grades, positive progression and destination
  • Working directly with the College Teaching and Learning team, manage and engage with the effective delivery of both internal and external quality assurance arrangements including planning and management of internal verification and moderation and liaison with external verifiers.
  • Lead teams effectively, celebrate success and manage performance to deliver departmental and college/project targets and support staff to further improve and develop.
  • Support the development of the area budget and business plan to deliver/exceed challenging financial targets including profit.

The Candidate:

The successful applicant will possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable engaging with a broad range of stakeholders including learners, businesses, and community partners.

The Construction Skills Hub will cater for 16-18-year-olds, adult learners, unemployed people, apprentices and engage with local schools to encourage young people to think of a career in the construction industry.

Training programmes will be initially offered from entry level through to level 3 across a wide range of trade skills, including Groundworks, Bricklaying, Joinery, Plumbing and Electrical installation. Degree level programmes in site management and civil engineering will be introduced from year 3 of this project and these programmes amongst others will be delivered by our training partner The University of Derby.

The successful applicant will be an experienced curriculum manager from a construction or engineering discipline and have a strong track record of meeting deadlines and delivering project outputs.
