Job Title: Community Outreach Support Worker

Salary: Up to £24,168 p.a.

Location: This role can be based in either High Wycombe or Aylesbury

Job Role: This is a full-time/permanent role (37.5 hours per week) and may include some evening and weekend work including bank holidays

Job Summary:

As a Community Connector with the Oasis Partnership, you will be a valued part of the One Recovery Bucks team delivering the service alongside the Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust and Connection Support.

Job Purpose:

  • To provide a high-quality service to offenders and clients who have a history of substance misuse related problems by engaging with them in a custodial and community setting.
  • To be a point of contact for Police custody suites across Buckinghamshire.
  • Provide relevant interventions based upon appropriate assessment or need and provide all relevant services in line with agreed targets and objectives
  • Provide advice, advocacy and harm reduction advice to clients who have a history of problematic substance use.
  • Where appropriate to work in close partnership with other agencies to ensure clients access a full range of services
  • To promote One Recovery Bucks to a wide range of partners, key-stakeholders and the general public.

Responsibilities:

  • To work directly with offenders, clients and potential clients delivering motivation interviewing interventions to support clients in accessing services.
  • To engage with offenders who either test positive for Class A substances, request to speak with a Substance Misuse Worker or have been arrested for a drug / alcohol related crime
  • Undertake assessments & provide harm reduction advice.
  • To implement and manage referrals using structured guidelines & to provide support for continuity of care.
  • To attend appropriate internal and external meetings.
  • Raise awareness of Naloxone to professionals and service users
  • To manage own workload, engaging in the provision of brief interventions, assessment and care planning to people with substance related problems.
  • Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects including the link between offending and substance misuse.
  • To contribute to the development of services and policies.
  • To participate in and plan training for other professionals/groups.
  • To participate in regular supervision and take part in annual appraisal and review.
  • To comply with all One Recovery Bucks (ORB) policies and procedures.
  • To positively promote ORB at all times within court teams and to all external partners

The ideal candidate for this role will have or be willing to work towards:

  • A qualification in substance misuse, social work, nursing and/or counselling, psychology or NVQ Level 3 in a related field.
  • Experience of direct client work with drug users or a comparable client group.
  • Experience of using assessment tools.
  • Experience of one-to-one work abilities and attributes.
  • To evidence experience of proactive client engagement.
  • The ability to work in a pressurised, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team and build effective working relationships with other agencies, and at the same time be abel to work autonomously.
  • A non-judgemental attitude to drug and alcohol misuse
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with a good level of IT skills.
  • Effective listening skills
  • Good computer skills including use of Microsoft programmes such as Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of the range of community drug services and models of treatment
  • Knowledge and processional experience of the Criminal Justice System
  • An understanding of the needs of drug users and knowledge of harm minimisation.
  • An understanding of care planning
  • Knowledge of brief intervention methods including Brief Solution Focussed Therapy and Motivational Interviewing
