The Role
Working within our Household Energy Services (HES) team, the home-based Wiltshire Community Outreach Energy Advisor role is for those people who have three or more years’ experience of giving advice or helping others and can provide strong customer service, personal resilience, and professional boundaries. Based in the local area you will primarily be working out and about in South Wiltshire giving face to face advice, presentations to local groups and front-line professionals and delivering home visits.
Given the large geographical area that the role covers there is a requirement that the postholder has access to personal transport to travel to meetings, homes and places of work across the county. You will be supporting certain individual people over a period of time (casework). There is also a strong administrative element to the role so accuracy and excellent attention to detail are key along with a place at home to be able to work comfortably and efficiently.
There will be a 4-month probationary period and review.
You will be expected to be in the office during your first week for induction and another week during your City & Guilds training and exam.
After that coming to the office on an ad hoc basis for key meetings will be expected.
Main purpose:
- To travel across South Wiltshire to deliver events, talks and presentations and give advice to people in their own homes.
- To provide face-to-face support for Wiltshire residents with energy-related issues so that they can stay safe, warm and healthy at home.
- To provide in-depth casework to Wiltshire residents with complex or multiple energy needs.
- To deliver outreach support to Wiltshire’s armed services community.
- To increase awareness of Warm and Safe Wiltshire amongst health and community organisations in the county.
- Train health and community professionals and volunteers in those organisations to deliver basic energy advice, including refresher training.
- To provide administrative support to the delivery of the project.
- To maintain accurate and detailed records of all interactions with clients.
Here are some examples of situations you may deal with, among other things:
- Talk to people at events and advice surgeries and give presentations and talks to front line workers and advice organisations.
- Helping people apply for grant funding or vouchers for their prepayment meter.
- Helping people with various difficulties with their energy bill.
- Talking to people who are struggling to afford basic necessities and finding them the right help and support.
- Help people apply for renewable technologies, heating and insulation improvements.
You’ll need:

- To be a quick thinker who can react to the many needs of the people we support.
- A strong sense of empathy.
- A strong sense of personal and professional boundaries.
- An awareness of the need to maintain your own wellbeing.
- The ability to self-motivate and have good initiative.
