Job Title: Communications Officer
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Salary: £20,000 – £22,000 dependent on experience
As the representative body for the UK industry, the organisation communicates the glass sector’s value and interests – as well as fostering collaboration and innovation – to secure a thriving, sustainable future for glass. Their membership includes companies from across the full glass supply chain.
The post-holder will develop, coordinate and deliver communications to promote the benefits of glass packaging and support adoption/continued use of glass. This will involve projects that work across multiple channels and reach stakeholder groups including brands, retailers, packaging designers, recyclers/re-processors and local authorities and end consumers (adults and children).
Key Requirements:
- Plan, develop and implement communication and PR campaigns to raise the profile of the industry sector and its activities for example: B2B fact sheets and resources for buyers at brand/retailer level: blogs and social media competitions and campaigns
- Develop and co-ordinate social media strategy and activity, creating content to drive stakeholder engagement
- Create content (including web news and comment items and blogs), trade editorial and e-bulletin items related to topical industry issues
- Keep up to date with the latest industry news and trends potential PR and promotional opportunities
- Write and produce e-bulletins for B2B and consumer audience
- Organise events including workshops and working groups. Supporting the Events and Training Coordinator with communication content eg. Supporting the creation of marketing copy, e-shots and press releases.
- Research and write or edit case studies, presentations, articles and reports
- Identify and develop effective links with key influencers/decision makers, colleagues, other stakeholders and individuals on industry related matters
- Liaise with, and source answers to enquiries from media, policy makers, other stakeholders and individuals on industry related matters
- Guard and strengthen the organisation’s brands and the visual identity
- Measure and report on the impact of communications campaigns, making use of the web and social media analytics
- Assist with budget administration and invoicing
- Arrange meetings and take minutes as and when required
Qualifications & Experience:
- More than two years’ experience in a similar role – either in-house or agency
- Marketing, PR or communications related qualification to degree level (or equivalent experience)
- Proven ability to formulate communications/ promotional strategies and campaigns
- Experience of delivering communications campaigns across multiple channels including web and social media Experience of using e-communications tools (eg MailChimp, DotMailer), social media platforms (eg Tweed Deck, HootSuite) and web content management systems (eg WordPress, Drupal)
- Proficient with IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Full driving licence
- Proven ability to write engaging and effective copy for marketing collateral, editorial and information pieces (digital and print) – preferably for B2B and consumer audiences.
- Experience of managing production and distribution of high quality publications/resources (print and digital) Experience of organising events (preferably in a B2B context)
- Experience of administering budgets, including handling supplier purchase orders and invoicing
Knowledge and abilities:
- Able to combine commercial acumen with creativity – generates usable ideas with flair
- Excellent time management, able to manage multiple projects and prioritise own workload to deliver to tight deadlines
- Able to drive a process forward – including creating robust schedules and coordinating the input of multiple contributors (e.g. subject experts, designers, printers)
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal communicator – by phone, in person and in writing
- Confident in supporting senior management
- Able to engage with and build relationships with a wide range of people at all levels
- Good team worker and the able to work with a range of different disciplines
- Confident, reliable and flexible
- Discrete and able to be trusted with confidential information
Desirable:
- Knowledge/interest in a related area such as FMCG, packaging, recycling
