The Company is a well-established manufacturer and renowned experts in precision machining, bonding and finishing engineering grade plastics, especially Acrylic. They supply global, blue-chip customers in industries including life sciences, medical devices and industrial applications with solutions including fluidic manifolds and optical components. They are implementing a significant growth programme supported by a pipeline of business expansion with new and existing clients.
The Role:
They are looking for an experienced Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programmer to translate their customer’s drawings and CAD files into CNC machine programmes and plans. You will have a good understanding of how to approach the machining, including milling and turning on a wide variety of CNC machine tools. This role will also support the estimating function of the company by converting CAD files into representative CAM programmes to determine the machining time and tooling for the quotations. There is the opportunity to develop the role down the line in a number of directions including a full commercial role or a more operations based role.
They currently work with both EdgeCAM and Autodesk HSM CAM software, but are migrating to HSM for the future. You will liaise with QA to ensure the part can be suitably measured and controlled with various tools such as gauges and a CMM. You will be working with a skilled and supportive team, both on the operations side and commercial function, with many years’ experience. You will also liaise with customers to help critique designs for manufacturability of parts and provide support and suggestions as required.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Apprenticeship or technical qualification such as an HNC/HND, City & Guilds or Degree
- In-depth knowledge of Autodesk Inventor HSM or Solidworks (and able to pick up HSM quickly)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a programming role
- Strong communication skills
- Solid understanding of both CNC Milling and turning
- Ability to thoroughly read and understand engineering drawings
- Practical, hands-on engineering skills
Desirable
- Direct experience as a CNC machinist
- CAD skills and experience
- Customer facing experience
- Specific plastics machining experience
- Commercial or estimating experience
