Job Title: CNC Turner Setter / Operator – Day or Night shift

Carville, a well-established manufacturer in Surrey, UK are renowned experts in machining, bonding and finishing engineering grade plastics, especially Acrylic. We supply global, blue-chip customers in industries including life sciences, medical devices and industrial applications with solutions including fluidic manifolds and optical components.
We are currently going through a strong growth period and are looking to increase their turning capacity and skills.
The Role:
They are looking for a skilled CNC Turner who can set up and run Twin Spindle, Mill/Turn and Hass Tool room CNC lathes to create high precision parts and achieve first off approval.
They’re also looking for someone who is, or could develop into, a Leading Hand/Team Leader in the turning department, monitoring and mentoring other staff.
You will be required to multitask across a number of machines and ensure components are manufactured to drawing and within tolerance, working closely with the QA department. Specific training will be provided on certain machines. There is a good opportunity to grow with the company through training and experience.
Key Duties:
- Setting multiple CNC lathes (e.g. Dugard, Hass, Nakamura, Traub)
- Liaise with Shop Floor Manager on timescales and priorities
- Selecting and specifying tooling and work holding
- Handling over to operators to run the machines.
- Carry out work running individual complex jobs as required
- Ensure consistent quality of parts produced
- Mentoring and training less skilled staff
- Be proactive in ensuring work has all necessary tooling to avoid downtime
- Reviewing and improving the way jobs are tooled and run
- Ensure all work and raw materials in the area are correctly identified with the relevant paperwork
- Work with QA personnel on addressing any issues and supporting continuous improvement actions
About You:
This position is suitable for someone with a significant record of accomplishment in CNC turning complex parts, ideally with some experience of plastics. You will be used to supporting others and taking responsibility for the quality of work.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years CNC machining experience
- Apprenticeship or technical qualification such as an HNC/HND or City & Guilds
- On machine programing, Fanuc controls
- Setting up fixtures, tooling and programmes
- Able to read and understand engineering drawings
- Very good eye for detail
Desirable Experience
- Machine specific programming languages (e.g. Traub, Dugard)
- CMM operation
