KUSCO (Kingston University Service Company Ltd) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Kingston University, established in December 1997. It is a non-profit making organisation providing facility management services to Kingston University.
The Role:
Weekend cleaning takes place Saturday and Sunday. All areas of the University are cleaned to high standards and will include offices, classrooms, laboratories, lecture theatres, computer rooms, Washroom/ Shower facilities and Dance Studios.
This job involves a fair amount of contact with students and staff and other users of university facilities, and it is important that the Cleaners can work closely and have the appropriate manner. You will need to work with minimum supervision use their own judgement and discretion to provide acceptable standards of service.
You will operate as part of the KUSCO Services Delivery Team and will form part of the weekend cleaning team. The weekend cleaning team will need to act in a considerate manner when cleaning as Students, staff and visitors use the facilities during the weekend. There are also ad hoc events taking place over the course of any weekend.
You will be part of a team, it will require you to deliver as a team, making own decisions and undertaking works to suit the building and its occupants making sure all tasks are completed for the next team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure cleaning standards meet the Client Service Level Agreements.
- Supervise cleaners during the weekend cleaning operation.
- Allocate work areas and organise cleaners.
- Carry out cleaning tasks as required.
- Work with the weekend cleaning team and organise staffing levels as required.
- Keep an organised log of weekend staff and allocate annual leave and cover when required.
- Work in conjunction with Supervisor/Team leaders for arrangement of staff cover, where required.
- To ensure cleaning is carried out in a safe manner as per training.
- Keep local storage areas clean and tidy.
- Take full responsibilities for keys issued and develop a detailed knowledge of their working areas.
- To ensure cleaners, use and store equipment as per the expected standards.
- Report to the Campus Services Supervisor routine supply requirements, defects in building fabric including all areas and equipment including health and safety exposures.
- Undertake training, to develop knowledge and skills needed for the job and be aware of safe and efficient operation of equipment, and regulations concerning security and Health and Safety and fully aware of COSHH regulations.
From time to time it may be necessary to include other duties, tasks and responsibilities within the role. The Campus Services Supervisor / Manager will discuss any changes or change of duties with the post holder in advance of them being implemented. Employees are required to adopt a flexible attitude to the work they undertake and to their place of work. Employees will not be expected to carry out tasks beyond their level of ability or competence.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience in a Team Leader/Supervisor role
- 3 years cleaning experience
- BICs qualification or equivalent
- Flexibility – able to change routines, and adapt working practices
- Initiative – able to work with little supervision and decide how best to deal with situations
- Drive for quality
- Full clean UK Driving License (not essential)
