Job Title: Charitable Activities Manager

Job Type: Permanent/Full-time (35 hours per week) but some flexibility required for events
The Yorkshire Agricultural Society is a registered charity with a 184-year-old history. It invests over half a million pounds a year supporting and promoting the agricultural industry in numerous ways from championing the role of farmers, to education, to agricultural research and the protection and sustainability of the environment. This is a fantastic and unique opportunity for an individual to manage and drive the charitable activities of the Society ensuring they remain relevant and impactful across the region.
The role:
The charitable activities of the Society has grown significantly in the last decade and this role will be fundamental to the continued growth and success of these activities. The Society has also developed a key role in supporting farming and the countryside and the role involves representing the Society and liaising with other similar organisations to help and promote farming and the countryside
- To co-ordinate, oversee and extend the range of charitable activities ensuring the activities fulfil the aims and objectives of the Society.
- This post includes the line management of staff, budget management, project management, supporting the development of additional funding streams and stakeholder liaison.
- Increasing farmer involvement, skills development and knowledge transfer are key activities of the post as is overseeing the delivery of various events
Duties:
Planning, facilitating and managing the current range of charitable activities:
- Education Events -These include teacher training courses, Springtime Live, Countryside Days, Farm to Fork school visits, Apple Day and the Discovery Zone at the Great Yorkshire Show. The aim is to continue to develop and expand the education activities which requires liaising with schools and developing and evolving events to make sure they remain relevant to schools and the national curriculum
- To manage the Society’s involvement in the networks; Future Farmers of Yorkshire (FFY), Yorkshire Food, Farming and Rural Network (YFFRN), Farmer Scientist Network (FSN) and the Yorkshire Rural Support Network (YRSN). Supporting the networks’ coordinators ensuring the Networks continued development and success.
- To manage and develop a small team of staff and work with the rest of the organisation to deliver and support the Society’s charitable activities
- To develop and research new ideas for increasing the range of charitable activities which enhance the overall objectives of the Society ensuring the activities remain relevant and impactful.
- To identify and successfully apply for sources of funding which would assist the Society in meeting its charitable objectives
- Report to and attend the Charitable Activities committee and support any subgroups. Preparing an annual plan and report on the effectiveness of all Charitable Activities and associated spend to the Committee
- To actively assist in promoting farming and the countryside by representing the Society and engaging with the industry and other stakeholders.
The Candidate:
- Graduate calibre with excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to network effectively at all levels
- Experience of planning and running successful events.
- Evidence of developing successful partnerships with a range of organisations
- A real passion and knowledge of farming and the countryside
- Experience of delivering charitable programmes would be beneficial
- Highly developed written and oral skills and an ability to produce succinct, cogent and persuasive reports
- Proven experience of managing a wide range of Projects
- Proven track record of working within and managing budgets
- This post requires a DBS (enhanced) check
Note:
The role is based at the Regional Agricultural Centre, Great Yorkshire Showground but the ability to travel to meetings and events in Yorkshire will be required.
