Our residential services offer a nurturing and safe environment and provide creative and ambitious opportunities for our young people aged 5-17.

We’re looking to recruit additional team members for casual cover so that we can maintain our quality standards of care. While experience of working with children is welcomed – it isn’t essential. What is critical is that you have a caring, positive nature and resilience in what can be sensitive and challenging situations.

The team operates 365 days per year, right around the clock – with sleep-in shifts from 9:30 until 24:00 and 07:00 until 10:00 the following morning.

Following induction and initial training, duties include:

  • Supporting, mentoring and educating our children in day-to-day activities to develop their emotional and social needs by building positive relationships.
  • Developing personal and practical skills to enhance independent living.
  • Managing complex behaviour
  • Reporting and recording key aspects of care

We offer ongoing development opportunities, and you will be expected to work towards the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Child Care within the first six months of employment.

Job Role:

This casual worker role offers a range of opportunities in various settings to support and care for young people, so they feel supported in all aspects of their lives. This covers three main elements:

  • Engage in the effective delivery of residential childcare in accordance with Ofsted’s Social Care Inspection Framework. Maintaining good professional practice within the homes in accordance with Departmental Standards, working as part of a team to achieve good outcomes for children and young people.
  • Provide support and signposting to those young people aged 16-18 years in Semi-Independent Accommodation.
  • Provide outreach support for children, young people and their families who are in crisis, within family homes and the community. Working with children and families to prevent escalation of need, reduce risks or prevent family/placement breakdown, achieving successful and long-term stability.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to young people’s care plans, their review and implementation.
  • Form effective relationships with young people and their families to ensure that: a caring environment is maintained, their emotional and physical needs and ‘safe care’ standards are met and opportunities for their development are maximised.
  • Ensure that young people’s views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate.
  • Ensure good quality records are maintained as required – with supervision and advice from qualified staff.
  • Provide outreach support for young people.
  • Safeguarding- through all accountabilities and at all times, to safeguard and promote the welfare and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Attend statutory reviews or planning meetings as required.
  • Achieve NVQ Level 3 if required within agreed timescales.
  • Offer advice and undertake direct work with children and families. Provide on call service to children/young people and families.
  • Liaise with and work collaboratively with other Children’s Services and multi-agency colleagues.
  • Gain and maintain a good working relationship with parents/carers and wider family members.

Candidates Qualifications/Experience:

  • Ability to attain an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care within 18 months of appointment.
  • Good standards of educational achievement (5 GSCE passes or above).
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training courses.
  • Able to travel to venues that may not be accessible by public transport.
  • 12 months’ experience of childcare work.
  • Understanding the signs of safety approach or willingness to undertake the training.
  • Ability to form effective relationships with children and act as a positive role model.
  • Understanding of childcare law.
  • Good level of applied literacy, numeracy and computer skills.

The role requires an enhanced DBS check.
