Coventry College was formed in August 2017 as the sole General Further Education provider in the city, delivering vocational, technical and professional education and training to learners of all ages, from Entry Level to Higher Education.
The Role
We have an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the STEM faculty, teaching on a range of carpentry and joinery courses.
Main Responsibilities
- Undertake a programme of work which may include classroom/workshop teaching, outreach work and delivery of open/distance learning packages.
- Develop and deliver a range of courses across a variety of subjects and levels.
- Assist with the organisation and monitoring of student residentials and placements and participate in residentials as required.
- Undertake organisational and administrative work associated with course/service provision including work preparation, devising, setting, marking and evaluating assignments and schemes of work, formal assessment and accreditation.
- Be responsible for the tracking and monitoring of learner attendance, progress and achievement of a particular course(s), module(s) or group(s).
- Under the direction of the Director of Faculty take a lead role in the effective implementation of key College priorities within the specified curriculum area (e.g. work experience, enrichment activities, development of online resources for blended learning, development of links with external agencies).
- Work with line manager to identify training needs and actively seek out relevant training and development opportunities.
- Participate in the College’s appraisal process.
- Comply with all College policies and procedures.
Ideal Candidate
As a Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery you should have:
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in carpentry or equivalent subject
- Relevant teaching qualification or willing to work towards one
- Minimum of Level 2 qualification, or equivalent competency, in Maths and English or willingness to achieve in a specified timescale
Desirable
- Have achieved or the willingness to work towards Assessor/Verifier qualifications (A1/V1).
You should also be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of teaching carpentry to level 3 as a minimum within a teaching/training environment
- Ability to methodically plan student progress and record effectively.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge to teach a range of topics within specified subject area
