Job Title: Buyer

This is an ambitious UK-based company with subsidiary operations in the USA, France, Germany and China. They supply materials which are used for research, development and specialised manufacturing applications within areas such as Healthcare, Industry, Communications, Academia and Defence.
The Role:
Procurement of materials & services required to meet the needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement of ‘Inventory’ items
From a ‘Minimum Stock List’ actively identify demand and place PO’s for designated parts
- Ensure specifications are clear, concise & maintained accurately on the company system
- Review minimum levels based on Usage, MOQ, UOM, Sales demand / forecasts
- Actively place PO’s at ‘Best Value’ with Preferred Vendors
- Check Acknowledgements and update the system accordingly
- Expedite open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met
- Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies
Procurement of ‘Non Inventory’ items
Place PO’s to satisfy specific customer demand and/or requirements via the company requisition system
- Ensure specifications match requirement and are maintained accurately on the company system
Develop an Assured Supply Base.
Foster good relationships with Vendors
- Understand capability
- Seek alternative sources of supply and follow the vendor approval process for introduction
- Determine the most reliable, cost effective sources
- Maintain a regular dialogue with key vendors
- Structured meetings focusing on capability and performance improvement
- Identify and mitigate ‘Supply Chain Risk
Ensure prices paid are within agreed budgeted targets / standard costs
- Keep abreast of market trends for commodities and materials
- Benchmark new and existing vendors in a bid to maximise their purchasing potential
- Undertake cost down projects as directed by Procurement Manager and/or the company management team
The Candidate:
Skills, knowledge and attitudes required:
- Purchasing Experience – 2 years minimum (5 years desirable)
- Experience of working in a dynamic cross functional team
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Critical thinking and negotiation skills
- Excellent organisational, communication & problem solving skills
- Computer literate. Systems experience using ERP. Advanced excel
- A technical knowledge gained from a similar engineering / material supply business (desirable)
- Ability to influence decision makers and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
- Prepared to travel
Qualifications:
- CIPS qualification would be advantageous
- Formal academic qualifications or equivalent experience
