Job Title: Buyer

Salary: £26,000 – £27,000 depending on experience

This is an ambitious UK-based company with subsidiary operations in the USA, France, Germany and China. They supply materials which are used for research, development and specialised manufacturing applications within areas such as Healthcare, Industry, Communications, Academia and Defence.
The Role:
The procurement of materials & services required to meet the needs of the business at ‘Best Value’
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement of ‘Stock Items’
From the ‘Minimum Stock List’ actively place PO’s for designated parts required to meet the needs of the business.
- Ensure specifications are clear, concise and maintained accurately on the company system.
- Review minimum levels based on Usage, MOQ, UOM, Sales demand / forecasts.
- Actively place PO’s with Preferred Vendors.
- Check Acknowledgements and update the system accordingly.
- Expedite open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met.
- Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies.
Procurement of ‘Non-Stock’ items as required.
Place ‘Back to Back’ Purchase Orders on receipt of Sales Order or via the company requisition system.
- Ensure specifications are in accordance with customer requirement and maintained accurately on the company system.
- Actively place business with Preferred Vendors.
- Check Acknowledgements and update the system accordingly.
- Expedite open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met.
- Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies.
Develop an Assured Supply Base.
Foster good relationships with Vendors.
- Understand capability.
- Seek alternative sources of supply and follow the vendor approval process for introduction.
- Determine the most reliable and cost-effective sources.
- Maintain a regular dialogue with key vendors.
- Structured meetings focusing on capability and performance improvement.
- Identify and mitigate ‘Supply Chain Risk.
Ensure prices paid are within agreed budgeted targets / standard costs.
- Keep abreast of market trends for commodities and materials.
- Benchmark new and existing vendors in a bid to maximise purchasing potential.
- Undertake cost down projects as directed by Procurement Manager and/or the company management team.
The Candidate:
Skills, knowledge and attitudes required:
- Experience of working in a dynamic cross functional team.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Critical thinking and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organising, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Systems experience using ERP/SAP etc.
- Computer literate. Advanced Excel.
- A technical knowledge gained from a similar engineering / material supply business.
- Ability to influence decision makers and manage relationships with key stakeholders.
- Prepared to travel.
Qualifications:
- Purchasing Experience – 2 years minimum essential (5 years desirable).
- CIPS qualification would be advantageous.
- Formal academic qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Full Driving License.
