Job Title: Buildings/Facilities Officer (daytime)
Location: Leeds city centre
Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 p.a. (reviewed after 6 months) + 12.5% employer pension contribution and other benefits
Job Type: Full Time, permanent, (42.5 hours/week)
This is a new opportunity for a handy person who would like to work as part of a team that takes pride in presenting a busy programme of events in a well-cared-for building – the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds city centre – where we offer a year-round programme of exhibitions, conferences, talks and other activities.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the principle key-holder to ensure that the Institute is unlocked/unalarmed and locked/alarmed at the start and end of each weekday, Monday to Friday.
- Set up and follow a weekly maintenance schedule for the building, including weekly testing of emergency equipment (fire alarm, fixed emergency radios etc.).
- Carry out first line repairs and maintenance, e.g. light building work, filling/making good holes in plasterwork, decorating, basic carpentry, basic plumbing and/or electrical work (depending on experience and training certificates achieved).
- Assist with the preparation of the galleries for the installation of exhibitions.
- Supervise the day to day operations of cleaners and oversee service contractors when working on site, providing them with access before public opening times as required.
- Order and/or collect maintenance and kitchen supplies, including water cooler refills.
- Carry out PAT testing of all portable electrical equipment (upon successful completion of training).
- Liaise with the Programme Coordinator regarding bookings for the flat, including arranging a cleaning schedule between guests and dealing with first line repairs.
- Assist the Operations Manager in updating the COSHH inventory (Control of Substances Hazardous for Health).
- Ensure that all areas within the confines of the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free-flowing and clean.
- Arrange the safe disposal of all electrical and non-hazardous waste and arrange special refuse and recycling collections.
- Be aware of security at all times while at work, providing security support for Front of House colleagues as called upon, and arranging contract security holiday cover.
- Support the Operations Manager and other colleagues in implementing the Institute’s emergency procedures and disaster plan as required.
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required.
The Candidate:
Our ideal candidate will have good DIY skills, ideally with experience in caretaking, buildings maintenance and/or security, and will take pride in doing a job well. We are keen to appoint someone with basic knowledge of one or more trades, however a willingness to undertake training, e.g. in PAT testing, fire safety and First Aid is more important. Good time-keeping and reliability are essential qualities for this role.
