Job Title: Boat Maintenance Engineer
Location: Brighton
Salary: £25,000
Hours: 40 hours per week, including Saturdays and some out of hours

The Company: West Marine Services is a marine engineering business with over 30 years’ experience in the leisure boating industry. Based at Brighton Marina but mobile across the South East, we are main dealers for Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Mercury and Webasto, and take great pride in our customer relations and the wide range of engineering skills on offer.
We now require a Leisure Boat Maintenance Engineer to join our small yet growing team.
The Role: Some mobile work will be required using our company vehicle so a clean, valid UK driving licence would be beneficial. The jobs are varied and range from troubleshooting and repairing on-board domestic water systems to replacing seacocks, with lots more in between so your day will never be boring!
Start date: Immediately
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Servicing, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of boat systems
- Boatyard work to include antifouling, polishing, fitting through hull fittings
- All aspects of marine plumbing
- Troubleshooting electrical problems for remedy
- GRP repairs and other structural repairs
- Boat painting
- Travelling to marina or dock where the vessel/job is located
- Completing service records, timesheets, repair documents and reports
- Plan daily jobs and works diary throughout day for updates
- Champion from the Company, its products and services
- Carry out jobs as per job sheet and ensure all parts are checked before attending where applicable
- Carry out work to best of ability and full competence, and check completed work
- Book out all parts removed from stock
- Liaise with Parts & Warranty Manager to identify required parts for jobs, and source from stock or order from Supplier as required
- Discuss the results of jobs with Technical Manager for best practice
- Partake in regular Company Training, both internal and external, to ensure up-to-date practices and knowledge are maintained
The Candidate:
- Experience required: at least 1 year in the leisure boating industry in a maintenance role
- Previous and proven experience carrying out boat repairs
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces
- Good technology skills including computer use, notes writing, etc
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills, with good English and Maths
- Commitment to high quality workmanship
- A proactive, positive and flexible attitude
- Good problem-solving skills with an ability to prioritise workload
- Excellent communication skills with a customer focused approach
