We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8A BMS Advanced Practitioner at Southwest Pathology Services.
We are currently looking for a BMS Advanced Practitioner in Virology/Molecular pathology. This role will provide expert leadership and management for the technical delivery and advancement of the Virology & Molecular service including SYNLAB Molecular Unit. Working with Advanced Practitioner and Team Manager Colleagues, you will also provide expert leadership and management for the technical delivery and advancement of the whole Microbiology service.
Our Laboratory holds ISO15189 UKAS accreditation is an HCPC approved training laboratory. We take a leading technological approach with a state-of-the-art automated track and analytical systems in Blood Science/Virology, Digital slide scanning and Cerebro Tracking system in Histology and Kiestra TLA for Microbiology culture.
During the COVID Pandemic we developed a new molecular laboratory (SYNLAB Molecular Unit) equipped and staffed to support both NHS COVID response and private opportunities for testing. Since late 2021 when COVID testing pre-travel was no longer required, this unit has moved into sexual health testing, supporting a number of NHS commissioned and private contracts providing on-line access to sexual health.
Duties:
- Train scientific and support staffs and access/manage competencies.
- Organise and conduct appraisals
- Provide leadership for quality assurance
- Develop policies and plan for change implementation
- Organise and run robust exceptions reporting systems
- Be responsible for managing/maintaining and developing Informatics systems including interfacing and connectivity to laboratory systems
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
- HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist, in Microbiology, Virology or Molecular with evidence of Continued Professional Development
- MSc/FIBMS by examination, and currently in possession of Fellowship of the IBMS
- High level working knowledge of biomedical techniques and practices at post honours degree level.
- Expert interpretive and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of National guidelines and protocols relating to Virology and Molecular.
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Leadership qualities
Desirable:
- IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma if applicable or an additional Masters level qualification
