Stage One has been providing creative construction, manufacture and engineering for over 30 years. We deliver scenic and engineering solutions to a range of sectors including events, ceremonies, art installations, pavilions, theatre and TV & film. With over 14,000sqm of manufacturing space just outside of York, we are fully equipped to deliver unforgettable experiences for our clients across the globe.

We are looking for permanent or freelance Automation Operators to join our fast paced and exciting Automation Department. This is a role that will involve testing, commissioning, and operating stage machinery for creative performances in both temporary and permanent environments. This is likely to include stage lifts, revolves, winches and conveyors.

Specific qualifications or experience do not matter as we will provide full training and support – we’re more interested in enthusiasm and appetite for learning than anything else.

The Role:

Automation Operators will join the Automation Team, working closely with the Head of Automation, Engineers/Technicians and show creatives.

Full training in operating our Qmotion technology and systems will be provided to enable Operators to fully control and operate automated systems for projects on site, whilst also

preparing and developing equipment back at our main office and workshops in Tockwith, York.

Key Responsibilities:

Production

  • Operation of QMotion show control in a real show environment
  • Work with the creative team to add and manage show cues and operation parameters to meet new client demands
  • Work with technical and Engineers to ensure the safe and smooth day to day running of the show
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Following day to day production plans in order to meet project
  • Be able to apply logical and methodical fault-finding techniques
  • Adhering to all Health & Safety Regulations and promoting a safe working environment by actively incorporating H&S into everyday activities
  • Pursue self-development to increase job knowledge and skills

Person specification:

Qualifications

  • A general education to include 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above (including Maths and English), or an equivalent educational qualification, or relevant experience (Essential)
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in software, electronics or a technical discipline (Desirable)

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and interest in creative design, performance and installations (Essential)

Skills, abilities and competencies

  • Comfortable reading engineering drawings (Essential)
  • Strong teamworking skills (Essential)

Experience

  • Experience within a creative environment (Desirable)

Additional information: 7.30am-4.00pm, with regular overtime, which may include weekends
