Job Title: Assistant Transport Manager

Location: Brentwood

Salary: Circa £30,000 per annum

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

The role:

Working closely with the Operations Manager you’ll ensure the effective operation of the Transport function.

You will collaborate with the team to provide a cost effective and efficient service, resulting in maximum profit and customer satisfaction.

Dedicated to inspiring and enforcing a positive Health & Safety ethic within the team, making sure the correct resources for a safe environment are made available.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Daily

  • Routing/planning of the vehicle/driver schedules under guidance of the Operations Manager
  • Producing all necessary driver paperwork, scanning returned driver running sheets
  • AM check in with drivers to ensure daily schedules are running smoothly
  • PM update drivers with what they are doing the following day to ensure prepared
  • Daily office communications with operational update
  • Liaising with landfill sites to book in loads
  • Oversee transfer station operations, including completion of customer consignment notes, bin management, organising cover as and when needed

Weekly

  • Monitoring driver’s driving time and working hours – Tachographs and Digi Cards
  • Weekly inspections of yard and transfer station and completion of documentation
  • Overseeing the return of the driver’s weekly PPE sheet and replenishing items
  • Production/collation of weekly driver wage submissions
  • Check fuel levels in on-site tank, re order when needed
  • Monitor driver infringements and take action where necessary, this includes uploading signed records
  • Management of Driver downloads

Monthly

  • Arrange monthly driver’s meeting and produce minutes
  • Production of vehicle costings MI (management information)
  • Review licence/training expiry dates, ensuring adequate time for re-booking. This includes liaising with HR to upload records/renewal reminders in to Breathe

Quarterly

  • Driver licence checks via DVLA
  • Management of Vehicle downloads
  • Driver training, full management including booking, ensuring attendance (CPC/FORS) and liaising with HR to log/load into Breathe

Annual

  • Planning and scheduling vehicle and trailer servicing, maintenance and MOT’s, creation of the annual wall planner
  • Completion of driver 1-2-1’s if assistance is required by the Operations Manager
  • Arrange Face-Fits and liaise with HR to load/log reminders into Breathe

There will be the need to assist with additional transport departmental related tasks on an ad hoc basis

The Candidate:

  • An understanding and/or experience of waste transport operations is desirable
  • Well versed in driving hours/CPC and a knowledge of FORS requirements
  • Strong knowledge of truck workings is useful
  • A very personable ‘can do’ attitude
  • Capable of working well under pressure
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • PC literate with excellent working knowledge of IT systems, Microsoft Office suite
  • Methodical and thorough approach to paperwork
  • Full clean driving licence
  • HGV licence desirable but not required
