Job Title: Assistant Manufacturing Manager / Production Manager

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum
Job type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Circa 50hrs per week – departmental hours 6am to 6pm
Gafoor is a dynamic and rapidly growing family-owned business in Preston. They are a key player in their sector operating on a national basis, supplying poultry products to leading blue chip manufacturers.
We’re currently looking for Assistant Manufacturing Manager with a strong background in FMCG food manufacturing, specifically poultry/ meat processing. This role has been created as a result of continued growth and further expansion plans for the future
About the role:
Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager you will be accountable for the processing area of the operation, leading a team of circa 100 employees. As a people manager you will manage, develop, train and lead your team to make sure all Daily KPI’s are achieved, as well as being highly focused on safety, quality, productivity and efficiency of the department.
The successful candidate will require a flexible approach to their working hours in order to oversee and lead a department working from 6am till 6pm and occasionally at weekends.
The overall focus of the role will be to ensure the smooth running of the processing area of the operation ensuring that production schedules are achieved to fulfil customer orders on time and to the correct specification. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the technical team to ensure all quality standards are maintained and also the engineering team to address matters which have the potential to impact productivity.

Key duties:
- Responsible for achieving the daily production schedule and leading an operational team
- Have a “hands-on” approach to all aspects of the department
- Develop internal relationships to inspire confidence in the manufacturing capability and NPD opportunities
- Undertake investigations and root cause analysis in response to complaints or operational issues and initiate corrective actions
- Mentor and develop a team of supervisors
- Manage day to day departmental HR issues in relation to onboarding new or temporary employees, performance and attendance
- Drive productivity and GMP
- Ensure a safe working environment by ensuring that all standards of the Health and Safety are adhered to within the department
- Support the introduction of new products and changing specifications into the business in line with the customer requirements
- Ensure all quality standards are embedded throughout the business, monitored and achieved
Key Requirements:
- A can-do attitude, able to communicate effectively at all levels
- Proven track record in the poultry/ meat processing industry
- A comprehensive understanding of GMP
- Experience operating to BRC standards
- A commercial outlook with excellent numerical capability
- Proficient in MS Office; preferably with knowledge of CRM systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent Problem-solving and decision-making
