Job Title: Assistant IT Services & Network Manager

Location: Stoke, Staffordshire

Salary: In the region of £29,000-£33,000 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The City of Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College is a thriving, lively and successful Sixth Form College, committed to social inclusion. The College is located in an award-winning, state of the art building at the heart of the University Quarter of Stoke on Trent. In September 2017, the College achieved academy status as part of the Potteries Educational Trust.

The Role:

IT Systems and Services

To assist with operational management to the IT Services department, providing expert knowledge and experience, ensuring that the Infrastructure, devices and services used across the college are fit for purpose, secure and maintained to the highest standards. To advise on future technology, system and service solutions to meet the needs of the College, and manage projects to renew and improve the infrastructure as part of an overall Digital Strategy.

Learning Technologies

To provide advice, support and guidance to support the effective use of a range of learning technologies as part of the strategic plans for teaching, learning and assessment and quality improvement.

This job description is not a comprehensive definition of the post. Discussions will take place on a regular basis to clarify individual responsibilities within the general framework and character of the post as defined below.

General Responsibilities:

  • To comply with the Colleges policies and codes of practice in relation to Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Quality Assurance.
  • To work flexibly in the interests of the College as required.
  • To participate in the College Performance Management Scheme and undertake staff development activities as appropriate.
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults you are responsible for, or come into contact with, and outside of this, to exercise vigilance at all times.
  • To be aware of the policy, procedures and safe working practices expected of all staff relating to the processing of personal information and Data Protection.

Key Duties:

  • To assist in the operational leadership for the IT Services team, ensuring that service levels are consistently achieved and staff are provided with ongoing support and professional development.
  • To support the ICT Services Manager in designing, implementing and managing the college’s network infrastructure, including virtual hosts, Wi-Fi, firewall and switches, developing the use of cloud technologies as appropriate to the strategic objectives from the Digital Strategy.
  • To support the management of the college’s IT hardware and software real-estate, meeting all relevant external regulations such as FAST, HSE, WEEE, and any other audit requirements.
  • To own responsibilities associated with physical and virtual network security, carefully managing the risks associated with Data Protection and GDPR regulations, as well as ensuring the College is compliant with the latest Cyber Essential guidance.
  • To assist with developing and managing the College’s use Microsoft services, including Microsoft 365, Active Directory and SCCM.
  • To support the management and control of the internal College network infrastructure and access to the Internet to maximum level of availability, service, security and performance.
  • To own responsibilities associated with the installation, maintenance and support and extension of the College’s local area network and end user devices, including the College computer teaching rooms, through setting up central servers, adding clients and configuring network hardware.
  • To communicate and consult with users, both staff and students, and through an established ICT user group, including Trust based IT networking groups.
  • Support Audio, Visual and Event support, as required by the College or Trust.

Key Requirements:

  • Educated to Level 3 or equivalent experience
  • Educated to degree level or professional equivalent

The Winning Candidate:

  • Experience of IT operations management including strategies for learning technologies and the use of new technologies to improve cost effectiveness and performance of IT systems
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and GDPR in relation to IT systems and security.
  • Experience of administrating a multi-server networked environment
  • Working and administrative knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, WSUS and SCCM
  • Experience of planning and managing projects to meet customer expectations and deliver cost effective robust solutions.
