Job Title: Assistant Buyer – Materials Control

Goodfellow is a UK-based company with subsidiary operations in the USA, France, Germany and China. The Company supplies materials which are used for research, development and specialised manufacturing applications.
The Role:
We’re currently looking for an Assistant Buyer who can aid the Purchasing team in the procurement of materials & services required to meet the needs of the business while helping to ensure ‘Best Value’ at all times (i.e. ‘Quality Product’ delivered ‘On Time’ at the most ‘Advantageous Price’).
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement of ‘Stock Items’
From the ‘Minimum Stock List’ as directed by the Buyer actively place enquiries and PO’s for parts assigned required to meet the needs of the business.
- Ensure specifications are clear, concise and maintained accurately on the company system
- Review minimum levels based on Usage, MOQ, UOM, Sales demand / forecasts
- Actively place PO’s with Preferred Vendors
- Check Acknowledgements and update the system accordingly
- Expedite open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met
- Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies
Procurement of ‘Non Stock items’
Place ‘Back to Back’ Purchase Orders as required on the receipt of Sales Order.
- Ensure specifications are in accordance with customer requirement and maintained accurately on the company system
- Actively place business with Preferred Vendors
- Check Acknowledgements and update the system accordingly
- Expedite open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met
- Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies
PR Purchase Requisitions
Process PR’s in a timely manner.
- Assist stakeholders in the generation of a PR (Source / Specification / Price / completion etc.)
- Actively place PO’s with Preferred Vendors
- Check Acknowledgements and update the system accordingly
- Expedite open orders as to ensure that delivery dates are met
- Actively respond to quality issues and discrepancies
Administration:
Assist Buyers with day to day administrative duties which include:
- Booking In. Process booking in paperwork. Make judgement on over deliveries. Ensure the system is properly maintained with correct Part, Quantity, Form, Size, Unit of Measure and where necessary enter material analysis
- Scan to Docuware. Assist with the administration and scanning of Drawings, Acknowledgements, Material Certs and any other relevant documents relating to the contract
The Candidate:
Skills, knowledge and attitudes required:
- Experience of working in a dynamic cross functional team
- Good communication skills both written and verbal
- Excellent organizing, communication and problem solving skills
- Systems experience using ERP/SAP etc.
- Computer literate. Specifically Excel
- A technical knowledge gained from a similar engineering / material supply business
- Ability to influence decision makers and manage relationships with key stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Purchasing Experience – 2 years (desirable)
- Formal academic qualifications or equivalent experience
- Full Driving License
