Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing:
You will be trained and supported throughout your apprenticeship and employment, including support with gaining your Engineering Technician Apprenticeship qualification.
As an Apprentice Machinist/Toolmaker you will learn how to undertake the highly skilled, complex and specialist detailed work of manufacturing and maintaining the engineering equipment used to produce plastic packaging in our factory.
This requires interpreting drawings and technical instructions and the use of manual milling machines and lathes also with manual fitting skills.
You will:
- Be developed to be competent using engineering drawings and technical specifications to set and operate machinery
- Learn how to receive and check materials ensuring that they are available and correct
- Follow processes and use proven techniques, including setting up work holding using chucks, fixtures and vices and specialist tooling
- Become competent planning how to complete milling/turning operations
- Become competent using conventional mechanical measuring equipment including Vernier’s, Micrometre’s to check that work is correct
- Be responsible for assisting with mechanical breakdowns when required
- Be responsible for assisting on mechanical projects when required
- Complete required job logs including liaising with supervisors to obtain sign-off
- Complete daily checks on equipment
- Follow Safe Working Practices
- Adhere to Health & Safety and environmental procedures and regulations
A Few Things About You:
- A commitment to undertake an Apprenticeship over 4 years which requires regular attendance at a local college with ongoing assessments
- Possess Maths and English GCSEs at Grade 4
- Possess good hand to eye co-ordination and hand skills
- A can-do attitude, able to overcome obstacles with a team approach
- Self-motivated and can work under pressure
- Ability to follow instructions
- Excellent attendance and timekeeping
- Have the means to get to and from our premises for the working hours below
When you’ll be working:
You will be working a rotating pattern of 7am – 4pm and 9am – 6pm, Monday to Friday.
40 Hours per week.
This will include time to undertake your studies through a college or training provider.
