Adaptation Officer – Up to £35,934 per annum

Coastal Management Technical Support Officer – Up to £19,945 per annum

The Role:

Working as part of a specialist, cross authority coastal management team, they are looking to appoint enthusiastic persons to play a key role in working with communities to plan and develop innovative, UK leading approaches to adapting communities to coastal change.

Job Duties:

Adaptation Officer

• Taking a leading role in the development and delivery of innovative local coastal adaptation plans and projects
• Researching and identifying approaches and opportunities for managing the impacts of coastal change
• Preparing and deliver an ongoing and sustainable engagement process with coastal communities affected by coastal change in order to develop coastal adaptation approaches
• Identifying and secure funding opportunities to deliver coastal adaptation schemes
• Overseeing a project budget for the development of approaches and make recommendations for the allocation of wider capital funds
• Working with members of the partnership to expand the understanding and awareness of the issues faced on the coast, and shape how this information is captured and analysed
• Liaising with the Planning Department and other relevant bodies in order to identify, shape, fund and deliver opportunities
• Inputting into the discussion with national government, including DEFRA in the development of integration of coastal adaption into the national risk management approach
• Being an active member of the partnership
• Supporting the Coastal Manager and the partnership in delivering the aims and objectives

Technical Support Officer

• Developing a system for applying, monitoring and administering compliance with Marine Licences and planning consents across the partnership’s frontage
• Responding to planning consultations for coastal development across the partnership and develop and administer a standardised approach (where practicable) across the partnership
• Supporting the partnership in the preparation of a range of web-based publicity and educational material to explain coastal processes, Shoreline Management Plan policies and processes for the coast
• Assisting in the collection and interpretation of coastal monitoring data, identification of potentially useful sources of additional data and undertaking site visits and inspections
• Providing technical administrative support for the partnership for example through taking minutes of meetings, dealing with public enquiries, filing and archiving and undertaking research on coastal matters and best practice
• Providing GIS assistance where required and assist with developing the a partnership approach to GIS

Key Requirements:

• Qualified to drive and access to vehicle
• Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills

Adaptation Officer

• Experience of working with local communities in the delivery of plans and projects
• Experience of developing projects from inception to completion
• Good standard of general education to A level or equivalent

Technical Support Officer

• Demonstrates an understanding and interest in coastal management
• Experience of regularly using computers and knowledge of Word and Excel
• Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science/Geography/Geology or related subject
