Making sure that our residents and businesses have the support that they need is our top priority. Over the past couple of years alone we have:
- allocated £3.7 million to support a range of housing initiatives, such as disabled facilities grants and affordable housing grants.
- invested millions of pounds into new temporary short stay accommodation
- delivered more than 200 new affordable homes for local people
- issued over £70 million of financial support through business rate grants, test and trace support and hardship fund payments.
- invested £6 million to redevelop our St James Industrial Estate
- set aside £175,000 for grants to support the positive contribution of private, voluntary and community sectors to our local communities.
- Embarked on a programme of carbon reduction projects including purchasing new electric refuse freighters and decarbonisation of our main Leisure Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Providing financial advice and support to officers and council members
- Budgetary control, including the preparation of regular monitoring reports
- Maintenance of the financial ledger system
- Preparing annual budgets
- Year-end accounts
- Assisting with Collection Fund forecasts and year end closedown
- Completing financial appraisals
- Managing direct report staff.
Managing our finances and developing our financial strategy are critical to the success of projects such as these as well as the day-to-day services provided by the council. We’re now looking for someone who can help us build on this success and provide better outcomes for those people who need our support
About the role
From day-to-day financial management, involvement in major investment projects, through to future financial planning, our financial services team plays a critical role in helping us to deliver vital services to our residents and businesses.
The council has a history of excellent financial management. Due to a recent restructure, we are looking to strengthen the team to ensure that we continue to be in a strong position to manage the future financial challenges ahead. We’re looking for someone who can help us build on our success and provide better outcomes for those people who need our support.
If you have strong analytical skills, are CCAB qualified, or a part-qualified candidate actively studying towards full qualification, are an excellent communicator, and are a team player, we would love to hear from you. We are also interested to hear from exceptional Accounting Technicians with at least three years relevant post qualification experience who must be willing to study for the professional CIPFA qualification.
You will need to demonstrate experience of working in a relevant accountancy environment and a good knowledge of working with an integrated Financial Management System.
