Job Title: HIU Service Engineer

As a HIU Service Engineer, you will be required to service and repair various types of HIUs. This includes the commissioning of heating circuits, setting up Domestic Hot Water for resident use, application of efficiency settings and the ability to carry out first time repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring Quality Management and Compliance Documentation for HIU Servicing and repair activities are complete.
  • Drive Legislative and Contractual Compliance, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical assistance to clients, whilst fulfilling and meeting both Quality Standards and HSE Objectives.
  • Closely manage customer HSE objectives and Quality Standards and ensure the adoption of Safe Working Practices.
  • Adopt HSE Policies, Procedures and Objectives, and ensure they are achieved throughout area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that Statutory and Mandatory Inspections are carried out and documented.
  • Diligently maintain, submit relevant documentation and records as required.
  • Servicing and repairs to Hydraulic Interface Units by carrying out a first-time fix.
  • Stock control to ensure you have required levels of components.
  • Identify components that are required for frequent use to ensure they are added to your stock requirements.
  • React to Hydraulic Interface Unit repair works to investigate the cause of breakdown and where possible, service the HIU and carry out efficiency settings to heating and hot water circuits.
  • React to residential breakdowns outside of the working hours during your period of being on call.
  • Be versatile to support all Department works.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will be well presented, organised and polite. This is a customer facing role, with excellent communication and customer service skills. You will also be required to actively take part in the callout / standby rota. A flexible approach to working practices and hours is essential.

You will have a high level of technical knowledge and expertise on various types of HIUs and knowledge of District Heating networks. Essential skills include:

  • Mechanical Biased with Electrical knowledge in a similar environment; with comprehensive understanding of current industry practices and relevant legislation.
  • Understanding the cause and effects of inefficient HIU settings and to implement changes to the HIU delivery to ensure efficient use on demand that improves the District Network operations.
  • Heating systems, Energy Centre processes and supporting distribution systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

The following Skills will be advantageous:

  • Served a recognised apprenticeship and/or be qualified to City & Guilds / NVQ level 2 in Plumbing/HVAC with Electrical qualifications and registered to the appropriate body as required for the role.
  • Servicing and fault diagnosing on Hydraulic Interface Units.
  • Electrical qualification to the latest Edition of BS7671 that includes modifying current electrical controls.
  • Willingness to study for relevant qualifications is essential.
  • Good customer service skills
  • Hot Water Systems or valid unvented hot water certification
