Job Overview:
Project management responsibilities with a clear legal & commercial background in the management of detailed manufacturing projects. Supporting & collaborating on all project management activities within a project delivery team. Contractual and legal attributes of NEC3, NEC4 along with familiarity of complex manufacturing contracts.
Responsibilities:
Key focus on providing support to the projects department:
- To provide the projects department with commercial, legal and contractual support in the effective management of live contracts
- Work with the project management teams under the guidance of the projects director to provide additional, appropriate resource as required, particularly with regard to the delivery of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
- Work with the project director, project commercial lead and projects management team in the control and processing of all NEC3 and NEC4 deliverables both inbound and outbound
- Working with the projects director & project commercial lead to provide strong negotiation and dispute resolution as may be required, with a good working knowledge or background of NEC Contracts
- Identifying and capturing in-project risk and presenting proposals and solutions for mitigation
- Development & implementation of project reports along with associated project schedule reporting
Additional focus on providing support to other departments where appropriate:
- Collaborate with the sales / bid teams in areas of drafting, reviewing and where appropriate supporting a range of general commercial contracts through the bid and delivery cycle. Key focus on typical risk associated with the manufacturing industry
- Reviewing and critiquing content as it is produced by individuals and departments where necessary
- Providing legal, commercial and administrative support and guidance to individual departments as required and appropriate. Preparing documents, evidence, arguments and identifying legal precedents that can be used to justify the company’s decisions and actions, in general and within specific contracts
- Keeping the company informed and up to date on new laws and regulations that may be applicable to the business, collaborating with HR, finance, manufacturing etc as appropriate
- Providing support to the finance department in managing and overseeing company legal obligations and official documentation returns (Companies House etc) when requested to do so
- This element of the role is to support across departments as required, working with departmental heads & the Managing Director, so underpinning the company’s legal representation as and when required. This is very much on an ad hoc basis, with the project management being the key focus
Knowledge and skills required:
- Appropriate degree in construction, or project law
- Detailed understanding and proven experience with legal contracts including NEC3 and NEC4 (essential).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience ideally in a project management commercial role within the manufacturing or construction sectors
- Previous project management experience within either nuclear, subsea or defence sectors would be advantageous
- Good understanding of project reporting, along with project scheduling (Microsoft Project) and relevant experience to facilitate communication & transparency within a project team
- Strong work-ethic, with a professional attitude and client-driven focus plus attention to detail
- Ability to understand and negotiate key risks and opportunities contained within contracts and client-specific terms and conditions of purchase on a pragmatic and learned company balance of risk
- Ability to analyse complex data and information in order to construct strong positions to protect the company and positively influence contentious situations and conflicts
- Exceptional communication, facilitation and negotiation skills
- ‘Business-savvy’ – some relevant market understanding ideal (but not essential from day one)
- Enthusiasm for working in an intensive, deadline-driven and high-profile role
- Able to work effectively on multiple, concurrent projects
- Strong time and project management skills and techniques and understanding of project finance.
- IT skills including ability to use MS Office suite of applications
