We are currently looking for a Sustainability Manager to join our resourceful and dedicated Strategy and Engagement team, on a Permanent Contract.
The successful candidate will be pro-active and adaptable, have demonstrable experience in the development and implementation of sustainability strategies, and be passionate about protecting our vulnerable clients.
As a charity that supports people who have had to leave their homes to find safety and sanctuary, we understand the impact that climate change will have on the way people move around the world. This role plays an important part in ensuring we minimise our environmental impact and have pathways in place to become net zero. As our Sustainability Manager, your role will be to drive forward a fundamental shift in Migrant Help’s approach to sustainability and ESG. This postholder will be leading on the development of a new strategy for this area and embedding new ways of working and best practice.

As the Sustainability Manager your duties would include:
- Develop and implement strategies and action plans, to ensure continual improvement in these areas
- Lead on improving existing and the implementation of new policies and practices
- Support the organisation’s corporate social value objectives and strategies
- Ensure the organisation, services and projects are operating in accordance with our sustainability and ESG objectives, guidelines and targets
- Engage proactively with key stakeholders, including local authorities, public, competent and regulatory bodies, to build meaningful relationships
- Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organisation, of the impact of emerging sustainability and ESG issues
- Develop a narrative that positions our environmental work internally and externally within the wider organisational strategy and operational context
- Support the strategy team to implement best practice in areas of corporate, ethical and social responsibility, and address any issues arising
- Take a leading role with senior management to set organisational sustainability and ESG targets, developing plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery
- Support the commercial team with sustainable procurement strategies, evaluating and monitoring the supply chain, contractors and third party suppliers
- Work with the commercial team on due diligence for suppliers and Modern Day Slavery risks
- Support and advise on waste management strategies, environmental impacts and aspects, conservation and renewable energy
- Audit, analyse and report on performance and sustainability initiatives to senior management team, board of trustees, external partners and interested bodies
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with UK, European Union and international regulation and legislation
- Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce Migrant Help’s risks and financial impact
- Develop and implement environmental management systems to continually improve the impact of the organisation on the environment, adhering to ISO14001 principles
The experience and skills you need:
- Up-to-date knowledge of all relevant environmental legislation
- Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively both in writing and verbally to wide audience both internally and externally
- Ability to use initiative, recognise emerging problems and proactively develop solutions to resolve challenges
- Ability to manage projects, as well as produce and deliver presentations
What else to expect:
- This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Work Environment – Home working with some travel around the UK that requires nights away of home
- There may be occasion where you are needed to work outside of you contract hours and therefore flexibility will be required
